Description

Steel: Yup! Breakin' new ground, people.

Ray: For the first time and the ONLY time, we will be doing a tried-and-true rematch between two combatants we've looked at in the past. Only here's the kicker--it WON'T SUCK.

Ray: A LOT has changed about these two combatants in the last three years, enough so that we figured it was high-time for them to gear up and get ready for round two.

Steel: They went from swapping out giant monsters to...changing clothes? What is this, a modeling gig?

Ray: Yuna, leader of the Gullwings...

Steel: And Lucy, the Celestial Wizard...

Ray: For the sake of fairness, we will not be allowing Lucy access to her summons, nor will Yuna use her Aeons. We will allow basic spells and weapons that they've shown to consistently use, but rest assured that this matchup will be focusing very strictly on their newer abilities.

Steel: And here's the kicker--unlike "Goku vs. Superman", these two actually HAVE new material to bring to the fight that we can ACTUALLY put to good use, and it will NOT just be the same match with a different coat of paint. He's Ray and I'M Steel...

Ray: And it's our job to analyze their NEW weapons and NEW skills to find out who would win a DEATH BATTLE.

--

YUNA
First Appearance: Final Fantasy X (2002)
Age: 19 as of FFX-2
Height: 5'3"
Weight: 106lbs
Theme:

FEATS...
Became High Summoner of the Eternal Calm
Destroyed Vegnagun--a massive Machina weapon
Defeated Shuyin--a vengeful Unsent
Harbored the soul and memories of Lenne
Ended a war between the Youth League and New Yevon
Brought Tidus back from nonexistence

Ray: Upon the defeat of Sin, the plague of Besaid, the summoner named Yuna became High Summoner of the newly-established Eternal Calm, a new era of peace which the calamity would never return to ruin.

Steel: But like any world-saving action, some real crap went down. Some people got the short end of the stick as they tried adapting to this new world, while others profited. A group of rogues were on the hunt for a superweapon called Vegnagun and were going so far as to commit terrorism to get its parts.

Ray: In this world, a ragtag group of huntresses regularly made raids for special spheres with magical properties. Their motivation--find a man who many had believed was long-dead. Leading this group was none other than the High Summoner herself.

Steel: Hoo-boy, Yuna's changed a lot. She went from a simple healer and summoner to a qualified, independent ass-kicker.

Ray: Kinda had no choice, really. After the fall of Sin, the summonable creatures called Aeons basically stopped existing, rendering Yuna's summoner abilities completely worthless.

Steel: As such, she got herself a handy little device called the Garment Grid, which allows her to tap into dresspheres.

Ray: Dresspheres are magical orbs that grant the user the ability to gain new skills by switching warrior classes.

Steel: And by changing clothes?

Ray: ...Yes.

Steel: Does it involve a lot of fanservice?

Ray: And how!

Steel: Wait, is this how MOST superheroes get their powers? All in the costume? It'd really explain why they run around in their underwear-

Ray: Moving on! Yuna can alternate between these Dresspheres during battle to help her fit the situation at hand.

Steel: Yuna has at least fourteen easily-accessible dresspheres, each granting her different abilities and weapons. Her go-to dressphere is the Gunner form, which arms her with a pair of pistols and gives her surprising marksmanship. Sure beats her old tactic of using a stick.

Ray: The Thief dressphere drastically increases Yuna's speed and gives her the ability to steal from her opponent.

Steel: Items, HP, magic, money, she'll take anything that's not nailed down. Probably the one who stole the toolshed I live in, too.

Ray: I thought you burned that down...

Steel: Oh, right, my mistake. The Warrior dressphere turns Yuna into a badass swordsman...er, swordswoman? Ah, she just gets some kickass sword skills and the ability to break defenses just like her old friend, Auron.

Ray: The Songstress form gives her the ability to boost the stats of herself or her allies as well as the ability to inflict ailments on enemies. The downside is that this is not an offensive class and usually requires teammates to cover for her.

Steel: She can become a sexy witch in the Black Mage, barraging her enemies with elemental spells, or go back to her old days as a White Mage to heal herself and cure status ailments. She can also become a Gun Mage to copy skills-She has a magic gun! Where'd she purchase that?

Ray: However, it should be noted that the Gun Mage is actually pretty weak on Dressphere standards, being effective only against specific types of enemies. Any skill she does copy tends to be more simplistic and cannot grow or upgrade the same way as a natural move.

Steel: The Alchemist dressphere lets Yuna merge items together to make stronger ones, but in a Death Battle scenario, where pre-battle prep-time is forbidden, this is...not particularly helpful.

Ray: There's also the Dark Knight-

Steel: Batman?

Ray: Dressphere. This black-armored warrior has low speed, but more than makes up for it with strength and staying power, even possessing moves that can drain enemy HP.

Steel: Samurai Dressphere! FAVORITE! This awesome getup lets Yuna mow down multitudes of weaker enemies and even has some mild healing abilities! Against single, stronger foes, though...kinda lacking.

Ray: Lady Luck vastly increases Yuna's ability to get a critical hit, but it relies heavily on luck-based games and events, such as slots. Anything can happen to anyone, which is a serious risk to take as it could harm Yuna just as easily as it could her opponents.

Steel: The Berserker Dressphere arms Yuna with a beastly attire, huge-ass claws to beat the hell outta anyone she fights, and gives her the highest speed of any dressphere at the cost of a good defense. Hey, ya know what they say--"A good offense is a good defense". Plus, she can go into a frenzied bloodlust to add even more power...at the loss of her ability to strategize.

Ray: Last but not least is the Trainer Dressphere, which gives her an animal companion that will obey her every order

GARMENT GRID...
Allows Yuna to store Dresspheres
Dresspheres can be changed at will
Used in place of her Aeons

DRESSPHERES...
Mystical items that give users new abilities
-...and clothes

Gunner
-Yuna's default Dressphere
-Grants gunslinging abilities and high marksmanship
-Low stamina/HP

-Swift-moving
-Specializes in stealing
--Items, HP, MP, and money
-Immune to speed-altering ailments

Warrior
-Strong melee attacks and solid defense
-Can break/lower enemy defenses
-Uses the elements to amplify strikes
--Fire, Water, etc.

Songstress
-Utilizes song and dance in battle
-Buffs allies and inflicts ailments on enemies
-Not an offense-based class

Black Mage
-Utilizes elemental magic for offense
--Fire, Ice, Thunder, Water, etc.
-Low Strength and Defense
-High defense to magical attacks

White Mage
-Utilizes healing magic
-Can restore HP or remove status ailments
-Can't attack
-Low HP

Gun Mage
-Weak in all areas except Magic
-Can inflict serious damage to specific types of opponents
-Can copy certain enemy skills

Alchemist
-Can mix and combine items to form stronger ones

Trainer
-Trains animal spirit to attack
--Yojimbo's dog, in Yuna's case
-Average overall stats

Steel: All these Dresspheres are pretty handy for a girl to have, but one dominates the others with an iron fist--ladies and gentlemen...FLORAL FALLAL!

Ray: Yuna is the only person who can use this Dressphere, and it stands head-and-shoulders over all the others that she can access. She can scan enemies for weaknesses, inflict damage and ailments to enemies, heal and buff herself up, and is immune to status ailments of any kind.

Steel: But what you really need to watch out for is the Great Whirl, where she fires a barrage of lasers at every opponent, causing mass destruction to all in its wake!

(GO TO 3:29)

Steel: So many flowers of mass-destruction, but NONE of them are real!

FLORAL FALLAL...
Yuna's strongest Dressphere
Available only to her
Gains a drastic boost in magical power
Abilities
-Libra: Scans enemy for detailed information
-Great Whirl: Inflicts heavy damage on all enemies
Right Pistil: Casts healing magic on Yuna and allies
Left Pistil: Damages enemies and inflicts ailments
Immune to Status Ailments

Ray: While Yuna has definitely come a long way since her days as a Summoner, there are some faults that can't be ignored. Her magic draws from a finite pool of power. If she uses up too much, her magic abilities will be taken out of the picture.

Steel: And like any magical wardrobe, she has to change outfits to get specific abilities. Can't have all the good stuff on one set after all, because each dress has its own pros and cons.

Ray: Last but not least is this--Yuna is mostly a team fighter and some of these Dresspheres prove it. Without sufficient coverage from teammates Rikku and Pain, some dresspheres will leave her at a severe disadvantage.

WEAKNESSES...
Finite MP Supply
Must interchange dresspheres for different abilities
Each Dressphere has specific weaknesses
-See above
Predominantly a team-fighter

Steel: But to go from an overall-gentle summoner to an independent thief, singer, seasoned fighter, and overall ass-kicker shows just how far Yuna has come. She even managed to get Tidus back from the dead when all was said and done!

Ray: Yeah, but everything after that got REALLY complex.

Steel: *sigh* Of course. It just HAD to...

(Yuna: Gullwings! Let's go! Sorry Dona, but the sphere is ours!)

LUCY HEARTFILIA...
First Appearance: Fairy Tail, chap. 1 (2006)
Age: 22 post-timeskip
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 104lbs
Theme:

FEATS...
Obtained ten of the twelve Golden Keys
Acquired her Second Origin
Reunited Fairy Tail after its dispersal
Held up surprisingly-well against Brandish
Rewrote the book of E.N.D.
Withstood Jackal's explosions

Ray: When last we checked up on Lucy Heartfilia, she had just called up the Celestial King to help fight against the Demon Clan known as Tartaros. After the demons of Tartaros were ultimately left bloodied on the ground, Fairy Tail was disbanded and its many mages were scattered, leaving Lucy Heartfilia alone and living life as a simple reporter.

Steel: However, Lucy was determined enough to not let Fairy Tail go under and used her "job" to track down her friends. Long story incredibly-short, she succeeded against all odds and the famed guild was reborn.

Ray: It should be noted that, in this span of time, she had picked up a few new magic abilities to help compensate for an over-reliance on her Celestial Spirits. This was a gift revealed to her by the Celestial King himself during a battle against Tartaros' members. This new ability came in the form of Star Dresses.

Steel: To put it simply, Lucy uses her magic to ask for a change of wardrobe and those clothes happen to give her abilities similar to her Celestial Spirits.

Ray: The first she ever got was the Aquarius Dress, which gives her the ability to summon and manipulate water for both offense and defense.

Steel: She even has access to some earth magic, seeing as she can make the ground itself ripple like water.

Ray: The Leo Dress lets her use Loke's Regulus magic to amplify her physical attacks, using the light-based magic to add more power to her punches and kicks.

Steel: At base form, Lucy could send bigger and tougher mages flying with a well-placed kick, so imagine how powerful she must be with that kind of magic power giving it a leg-up. Also, she's considered one of the PHYSICALLY-WEAKER mages of Fairy Tail. Keep that in mind, people.

Ray: The Virgo Dress gives Lucy earth magic, including the Celestial Spirit's natural tunneling ability and the "earth moves like water" trick.

Steel: AND it gives the fanboys some fabulous fetish material! Not as much as the Taurus Dress, which is little more than a cow-pattern bikini top and tight-pants that both leave little to the imagination. I'd go on, but she'd probably deck a gawker with her now-enhanced physical strength. We're talkin' strong enough to make tremors in the ground...with a single punch.

Ray: If Lucy needs to play a ranged game, her Sagitarrius Dress is just the outfit for the occasion. She not only becomes an expert marksman, but can fire magic energy arrows in vast numbers and with some homing abilities. She's taken out entire squadrons of enemies with just a single barrage.

Steel: The Aries Dress grants her wool magic...we think. It's never really told, and the Gemini Dress gives her the ability to copy another person's magic to use it against them.

Ray: The Scorpio Dress gives her the ability to control sand and travel through it, and she can do so with lightning-speed. Last but not least, the Cancer Dress grants her similar speed and twin blades that she has surprising proficiency with.

STAR DRESSES...
Magic available only to Celestial Wizards
Taps into Celestial Spirit's power in the form of clothes
Can still summon Spirits to aid her

Aquarius
-Lucy's First Stardress
-Grants Lucy access to Water and Earth magic

Leo
-Adds Regulus magic to her physical attacks
-Base form can knock out Reedus with a single kick

Virgo
-Gives Lucy the ability to manipulate Earth and tunnel through it
-Aqua Metria: Causes earth to move like water, allowing for attacks

Taurus
-Vastly increases Lucy's physical strength
-Some earth control, like tremors

Sagitarrius
-Gains expert archery skills and marksmanship
-Can fire energy arrows
--Rapid-fire shots or several shots at once
-Arrows can actually home in on targets

Aries
-Wool magic...maybe?
--Never shown

Gemini
-Can copy the skills of other mages

Scorpio
-Becomes incredibly-fast
-Gains control over sand that she can travel through

Cancer
-Gains a significant speed boost
-Wields two swords with surprising proficiency

Steel: Lucy-Lu's got more than just fancy clothes in her lineup of skills. After some intense training under the Time Mage, Ultear, she gained access to her Second Origin. Think of it sort of as tapping into latent power when you really need it in order to blow stuff up quicker.

Ray: Lucy still has access to her extendable water whip, the Fleuve d'etoiles and her most powerful spell, Urano Metria. While she typically needs a little help from Gemini to do it normally, she has been able to cast it on her own in at least three different scenarios. The spell is almost a guaranteed one-hit KO to anything it hits.

Steel: And with Unison Raid, Lucy can combine her magic power with that of another mage to do pretty much the same thing, like the time she and Juvia teamed up to defeat a KISS reject. Buuuut that does require another mage to use and there IS the whole "no outside help" thing in play, so it's kind of a moot point.

SECOND ORIGIN...
Awakened before the Great Magic Games
-Thanks to Ultear's time magic
Greatly increases Lucy's magical potential and raw power
Can be tapped into at any time or saved for later

OTHER SPELLS...

Urano Metria
-Lucy's strongest attack
-Typically requires two people
-Has done it on her own more than once

Unison Raid
-Used with the aid of another magician
-Combines their magic into a powerful blast of energy

Fleuve d'etoiles
-Magical whip given to her by Virgo
-Made of celestial water
-Can extend and retract

Ray: While Lucy has certainly come a long way since being the newbie at Fairy Tail, she does stand as one of the physically-weaker members of the guild. She needs her Spirits and/or her Star Dresses to help even the odds, but can only access one dress at a time.

Steel: And like any other mage, Lucy only has so much magic in her reserves. Granted, it's that "power source no one ever knows the limit of", but if it runs dry, she'll either collapse or die.

Ray: But by far, her biggest weakness with her Star Dresses is that they don't capture the full power or skill of the Celestial Spirits they're based on. It's more like a simplified version, the effectiveness of which is up to Lucy's imagination or quick-thinking.

Steel: But more often than not, her biggest weakness is that she's often a victim of circumstance, often getting herself into embarrassing situations involving her notably-curvy form!

WEAKNESSES...
Finite Magic Pool
Can access only one Stardress at a time
Star Dress powers pale in comparison to actual Celestial Spirits
Weak on Fairy Tail standards
Victim of circumstance

Ray: Lucy is NOT to be underestimated, however, for she has held up surprisingly-well against mages that were technically her superior. She's aided in the destruction of a time-traveling gate, held her own against the mass-manipulating Brandish, and even withstood the force of a point-blank explosion from the demon Jackal.

Steel: As we explained before, such an explosion would pop your eardrums at LEAST and kill you at worst, but Lucy is still kicking. She's put up with some seriously-insane crap on an almost day-to-day basis and has proven a reliable teammate time and time again.

Ray: After all, who else can earn the legitimate respect of the one and only King of the Celestial Realm? She's come a long way since her initiation and odds are she'll keep going to new heights.

(Lucy: You have three choices--give up, give in, or give it your all!)

Actually the star dress is just as strong as the celestial spirits if not stronger. She was able to create large wave of water using Aquarius' powers and has incredible sword skills using Cancer's powers.

i wonder to what extent can lucy use gemini powers, bcs it could be very handy.
after seeing that yuna could heal, lucy could copy yuna and use it to heal herself, plus copying the enemy gives full info on them.
that, among other things that she could copy and use it against yuna herself.

From what I gather, she gains access to their magical power, but can't quite use it to their full extent.
Also, it's more likely she'd only be able to copy a single Dressphere at a time, not all of them at once

i know that, thats why im asking what are the limits of lucy herself. when gemini copies some1, it copies everything - skills, knowledge, appearance, the abilities, and even items and can use the abilities of the said items. i wonder which of these things could lucy do.

so, i guess, copy the one dress that yuna is wearing at the time? could probably stalemate yuna's ultimate dress, or use for some healing, when she notices yuna do it. lucy's dresses arent limited to one use only. it just depends on how the battle develops.

Physicality & CQC:

Lucy seems to be the physically stronger opponent, baseline she could send fully grown mages flying & several of her dresses actually increase her strength, however Yuna does seem like the more physical fighter, only two or three of Lucy's outfits put CQC over magic or long range abilities while the majority of Yuna's seem to focus on facing opponents head on, at least to a degree.

It's pretty even, but I give a slight edge to Lucy.

Versatility & Abilities:

Lucy is by far the more versatile fighter. Her outfits allow her to manipulate the battlefield, increase her physical stats immensely, & other abilities.

However Yuna has some powerful abilities of her own. Unlike Lucy, Yuna has means to heal herself, can inflict status ailments that I don't think Lucy could avoid or shake off, gain resistance too & even steal magic, etc.

I'd give the edge to Yuna, she's better equipped to wear her opponents down.

Intelligence & Experience:

I'd say Yuna. She's fought in & ended a war & was actually the leader of her group.
Lucy's determined & she did reunite Fairy Tail, but there's a world of difference between being a good journalist & a good battle commander, not to mention Lucy is far less independent than Yuna. Even with her dresses Lucy's more of a follower than a leader it seems.

Yuna has the edge.

Floral Fallal vs Second Origen/Spells:

If Yuna gets the chance to activate Floral Fallal it's all over. Not only does it allow her to scan for/exploit weaknesses but she can also inflict even more status ailments. Urano Metria is Lucy's best chance to take Yuna down at this point, but she'd have to hit Yuna first & if she misses then I don't think she'll get a second chance.

Verdict:

It's a pretty close fight but I'd say Yuna wins. Her healing & status ailments will allow her to whittle Lucy down bit by bit & by the time the fight enters it's final stage those ailments will have piled up. Not to mention Lucy only gets one chance to kill Yuna with Urano Metria while Yuna will have every chance in the world with Floral Fallal.

1 on 1? okay. well, lucy is depowered now, but in turn she will use less MP and therefore will last longer.

i've got to correct u on one thing - lucy has aquarius stardress, look closely at the links:
www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/…
www.mangapanda.com/fairy-tail/…
u see aquarius sign on her bra? also aquametria is aquarius stardress move.

and i just like to mention that lucy doesnt need to hold a key to use a stardress - she wasnt shown holding keys in her fight against brandish and she sure as hell doesnt have the aquarius key.

Star Dress powers pale in comparison to actual Celestial Spirits - well, thats not entirely true. lucy has shown to be way better with taurus powers than taurus himself, better with scissors than cancer. it could be debatable with a few other cases, but shes definately better than some of her spirits mainly due to not retaining their retarded personalities. and also shes harder to take down than most her spirits.

also, u should add her normal whip, look at taurus dress pic, she carries it.

what about their skills? how good of a gunner yuna is? how good is she with a blade? how good is she h2h?
lucy gotten a bit better at h2h recently. and i think it should be noted that she is pretty good with a whip.

anyway, im rooting for lucy, but i dont know who wins.

1. Um...I clearly included the Aquarius dress at the very start of her Star Dress overview. You REALLY must've been in a hurry to overlook that, seeing as it's right there and in plain sight.

2. When did I ever say she NEEDED their respective key? All I said was that she can only use one Star Dress at a time, which is TRUE.

Last but not least, I didn't include her normal whip because, honestly, a normal whip doesn't compare to a magical, extendable whip made from celestial water (which combines light and water-type properties).

1, i must have overlooked it somehow. my mistake.
2. i just made sure, i've seen people misinterpret that.

yes, but i dont recall it being good for damage (for actually whipping), where the normal one has been used for hitting enemies.

i am sorry if i offended u somehow.

Well, I'd like to say I've grown in my time here. I went from a salty prepubescent fanboy to what I like to pretend is a mature debater. And after analyzing these two and what they bring to the table... I have to say yuna. Without aeons, she's gone from a support role to a one-man army, and her dresspheres just give her more versatility than Lucy's dresses. However, what I really think is the deciding factor has less to do with the characters and more to do with the worlds they inhabit and how their magic works. Lucy is powerful, yes, but once she runs out of magic, she risks unconsciousness from the exhaustion. If yuna runs out of magic, she may lose some abilities, but she has guns, swords, potions, and floral fallal to rely on. Lucy can't even switch dresses if she's too exhausted.

Therefore, while Lucy will certainly give yuna a run for her money, I believe that spira's summoner takes Β home the gold this time.
