Description ⭐Universe: Mana Surge ⭐

One of the most inhospitable and heavily polluted regions of Yaadren is the Mana Wastes. This part of the wasteland is seemingly devoid of any form of life, the entire region consisting of rocky splintered and spiky black stone, towering mountains, deep crevices and crags, and flattened spans of hazardous terrain. The sky above is a constant storm of volatile magic, sparking and crackling with blue lightning, and casting a downpour of magically radioactive rain onto the stone below. Pools of glowing blue raw negative mana form in lakes, pools, and rivers in the area mutating anything that comes into contact with it leading to all manner of horrific and alien aberrations. These aberrations being the only form of life able to survive in the area, with an uncontrollable hunger for any and all forms of magic and mana be it negative or positive. Aberrations strange warped mutants, horrors, and eldritch abominations—their bodies illuminated from within with a blue glow by the negative mana that shaped and twisted them.

The Mana Storms raging above the wastes commonly seem to spread out from the region like a hurricane, traveling and encroaching into the greater wasteland. During these mana storms magical fallout is spread and leaves behind lasting pollution in its wake. Aberrations will commonly follow in the wake of the storm, drawn by the massive concentrations of negative mana which they feed on, with the storm also acting as cover for them to spread out from to consume more positive sources of magic—usually from the unpolluted lands and any life unfortunate enough to be in the storm's path. Mana storms are a constant threat to the people of the wasteland, with the nomadic gishaal and yeth'n constantly on the move as they relocate during each storm. Humans in the wasteland hide behind the fortified walls of the advanced city of Remnant, aptly named as it is the only surviving city from before the Mana Surge—home to humans who now work to upkeep the ruins.

The Mana Wastes themselves were ground zero for the Mana Surge that devastated Yaadren ages ago. The concentration of World Spheres in the area all simultaneously exploding at once with a cataclysmic release of volatile magic. The area itself was made uninhabitable, and left the blackened stone wasteland it is now. Ruins of the advanced ancient civilization can be found in the Mana Wastes, having been flattened and collapsed beneath the cavernous carved out earth.

One of the only forms of intelligent life in this barren region are what have been referred to as Dark Earthern. In Yaadren, most Earthern are born in the Wasteland around areas saturated with positive mana and coexist with the other races. However in the Mana Wastes Earthern can be similarly born, their bodies forming within and from the blackened twisted rockfaces before bursting free. These Earthern are born entirely from the volatile negative mana and magical fallout, distinguished by their sharp jagged and often times broken bodies, and the far more intense blue glowing veins.

Like common Earthern, Dark Earthern are emotionally dull being more seemingly robotic and monotone than other races. However due to being animated by negative mana, the few emotions they do feel are negative. Hatred, anger, despair, sorrow, and hopelessness. They are known to take an interest in other races that dare step foot into the Mana Wastes (usually miners employed by Remnant), watching them with curiosity and usually torturing and killing them—as if torturing ants out of a strange emotionless curiosity.

Though they seem to less inclined to torment and murder their positive mana born cousins, and have been known to occasionally interact in a less hostile manner to normal Earthern. Though even to Earthern they are rather mysterious.

A minor race related to Earthern, which can be learned a bit more about here . I'm actually really happy with how these guys turned out! They were a lot easier to get right than normal Earthern funnily enough and I didn't have to edit out ears or mouths. Only complaint is it doesn't quite convey just how messed up they can look, being composed of volatile negative mana. Their bodies can look a lot more broken, with some having limbs detached from their body and seemingly only held together by loose tendrils and tethers of blue magic. Anyway, still love how they look in these.
