I think it's weird how they were calling that movie Coraline a 'family' movie.
The book scared the poop out of me when I read it like 3-4 years ago. My brother saw it the other day and said it was DEFINITELY not a family movie XDDD
I love mammoths, though *__* like seriously.... they're my animal.

Nice one! I'm liking the thick features and his big ol' beard.
I'm interested in hearing about this comic coloring venture of yours. If you have any questions I might be able to help since I did a lot of fan stuff on the side, though I'd imagine you wouldn't necessarily need it.

Top secret ftw! I'll note you with my email, hope I can be of some help. I'd offer to help with the coloring 'cept I have my DAWGs comic to worry about, not to mention getting some decent stuff up in my portfolio. I'm so busy with art that I don't have time for art.

My impression by the looks of him is he is a migrant from either Siberia or Mongolia - a harsher land that outcast him as too savage for their civilization. He headed southeast and learned the ways of the locals - in as much as it took to learn how their money worked and just enough language to be useful.
The sword he made himself - hammered from a cast off piece of iron (he used to be a blacksmith, but nowhere near the artisan quality one can find in the Orient) and the helmet is one he liberated from a fallen samurai (the helmet at the pauldrons were the only bits of armor not cleft in twain during their very brief conflict.)
He fights without honor, which catches many opponents off-guard, and hits like a ton of bricks. He rarely cleans his blade (not to mention himself) and fights with the passion and fury of a demon.
To nickname him "Oni" would be an injustice - he is far more brutal and ferocious than anyone could imagine when writing stories of demons.
His motivation is to amass wealth and eventually return to his native land. After a period of time he has come to realize he needs someone to translate and negotiate jobs. He is not merely a killer, he is a sell-sword that is very good at taking life.
It might work to think of him as a representation of Genji's "id" - his barbaric and animalistic psyche made manifest. He can usually be constrained by Genji (the obvious representation of the superego) but there are times when no amount of calming down will work.
This triple play of characters works to include the girl, as well, as the "ego" - explaining why her feelings can be hurt easily but she stays confident. She disagrees with Mammoth (maybe his given name is too hard to pronounce in the local language) but respects his abilities. He is one of the few who can get by with using terms of affection toward her.
Looks great - very inspiring.

I love that sword. And if you consider this dude is larger than normal that would make it truly epic.
Bravo, nice work yet again.

haha thats exactly why i went to bed a 330am and woke up at 930am!
and before i paint them i think of general idea of character as far as their role in the story, but dont think of their history as much until after or during painting
now i cannot guarantee that i will use all the ideas people, but i do very much enjoy to hear people impressions of them solely based off their physical appearance, cause i might think im drawing a character one way but everyone might see them another way
ideas, opinions and complaints are always appreciated, and if i use anything ill deff give you a shout out
thanks bill!
haha now you got me leaving huge comments (=
