Description I must admit, Barney was much slimmer and much more handsome-looking (and on top of that, probably much cooler) before his career of entertaining young-ling humans in the 1990s (and his rise to popularity as an Internet meme). Why did he have to trade in such an elegant look for fame and fortune? Damn retrosaurs....

In similar vein to the other vintage paleoart memes in this series, I encountered this particular image while in the midst of browsing through various reviews of olden informative dinosaur books over on the "Love in the Time of Chasmosaurs" blogspot. This time, the original image you see above originated from the 1975 book, "The Ecology and Evolution of the Dinosaurs", as part of a panoramic view of life during the Early Cretaceous period along the seaboards of Europe. This Neave Parker-inspired Megalosaurus was one of the creatures from this book that particularly captured my attention, seeing as how strangely pinkish in coloration it is (which I don't believe is realistic by today's standards). The appearance and coloration of this anachronistic megalosaur instantly made me think of Barney for some odd reason, and also made me think, "Hey, what if this was Barney before he started his acting career?" Thus, I decided to produce the meme you see here today.

The original painting, as stated previously, originates from the 1975 informative dinosaur book, "The Ecology and Evolution of the Dinosaurs", written by the likes of L.B. Halstead, with illustrations created by Giovanni Caselli.
