Description This is meant for Fire Alpaca, but it can be applied to other art programs too.
Want to see any example of this in use? It's the technique I used in my X of Swords piece!: hoafan.deviantart.com/art/X-ofโ€ฆ
Hopefully this is helpful if you're anything like me and can't get premade fur brushes to look right for the life of you. I seriously tried out every free one available. I have a whole folder of fur brushes I don't use.
As another tip, stay within the comfortable saturation range! For example, you might not want to use complete black on white fur, even if it is using the overlay blending. Maybe use a grey instead if it's too dark. The same goes for black fur! You don't have to use absolute white for highlights, a light grey will do. Maybe mix in some faded blues? Black fur tends to have a slight blue tint when scene lighting is involved, like white fur tends to have slight tans/creams for shade instead of black or grey if your lighting isn't dark. Even then, go crazy! Use oranges, reds, and yellows if you love sunset scenes like me. Or do blues and purples for those night scenes!
