Why does anyone like this pairing?

Hey, there have been plenty of good reasons offered as to why people like me don't like it, mainly because it's rushed, underdeveloped, and Mako treated both her and Asami very badly before finally ending up with the girl he had earlier brushed off. >_<
And I believe this pairing is merely a physical attraction. It is NOT a true relationship if it's all about looks, and I seriously think this is predominantly physical, because they had virtually nothing else on which to build their relationship. HOW do you form an emotionally-invested couple after twelve lousy episodes and with a guy who's a complete jackass?

Because Bryke is killing us with 12-episode seasons that only come out every 2 years. They only did that to squeeze it all into what they had.
I Personally think that fact is stupid myself, but hey-as long as Avatar keeps on coming, I'm not complaining.

Well I am. For an Avatar series, I expect MUCH better than this. The shipping factor should've been dropped completely so that the focus on the true story might have been better maintained.

Well, Bryke is caught up on how everyone else can't stand anything unless it has romance drama. I feel the same way, in a way, but it's their show, so they can do whatever they want with it as long as Avatar doesn't disappear off of the face of the Earth. They ARE the only source we can get to that knows what happened to Zuko's mom, after all.

Well they also have to do it right. In ATLA they handled the romance right. But here.......come on, half the fanbase doesn't like what they did with the romance factor.

I'll bet they could. I mean I know it's cheesy teenage romance, but Makorra at least from what I took from it embraced the worst aspects of that kind of romance. The relationship between Mako and Korra feels especially superficial; very little, if anything about their relationship felt truly developed and the two didn't really click. They had no chemistry, as much as the writers wanted to force us to think they did. I'm sorry, but you don't spend weeks/months taking sharp jabs at each other and then suddenly decide out of the blue "I love you". I don't know why Korra was so upset about Mako going with Asami because let's face it, he simply isn't compatible with Korra. And I don't know how the hell Mako was so head over heels for Korra after spending almost eight straight episodes pretty much casting her aside. I'm sorry, but for them to be on each other's nerves for as long as they were and then come out making mad passion with each other, it really gets in the way of things.
LOL, yeah what CAN you expect from kids, right? XD Well to their credit, the Disney movies usually play it straight and they aren't hopelessly cheesy. XD

...I guess...I'm not really in any situation to actually think like that, but I'll just take your word for it.
EXACTLY!

Me neither. I know I'm just a kid, but I always wish I had a special guy in my life...
And, yeah-Bryke messed up majorly on that one. I mean, sure--it's 70 years later, there's technology updates, blablabla, we get it. But I think they went at least a LITTLE too far on that one, no?
Yeah. That's why me and my 16-year-old older sister still love Tinkerbell and the Little Mermaid. XD

Well said, brother, well said. You took the words right out of my mouth. (YOU EVIL THIEF! HOW COULD YOU?!? XD)
Same with me and my sister.

Yeah. I like agreements.
But say...if someone were to, I don't know, maybe rewrite the series, would Makorra be a possibility if written correctly? *cough*

Well some people just thought it was nice when he explained about there past and how Mako let Korra borrow his scarf when he never let's anyone wear it ,and other than the fact that "he was losing his mind at the thought of never seeing her again " is pretty dang cute well that's just some points I could go on forever but yea

Yeah, it WOULD be nice......if not for the fact that he cheated on his girlfriend Asami, didn't have the decency to acknowledge her, and for the most part was very cold to Korra so how the heck did he develop romantic feelings for her?
This couple makes no sense to me at all.

well me being a Makorra/Amorra/Howrra shipper my self i can see where your getting at .it's just Mako can be stupid at times i will admit, but he is an 18 year old boy stuck in the middle of a war.True he should have just told Asami the truth and maybe they could have just worked things out but he didn't and whats been done ,is done.I think he started developing feelings for her in episode 2 but didn't acknowledge them because they were looking for bolin.this feeling hit a snag when he meet Asami because she was (beautiful etc.) nice and all the things he wanted she was safe.not hotheaded like korra was so he didn't want trouble so he stuck with Asami.later he realized that maybe it his feelings towards the avatar weren't really platonic ,but much more than that .so he actually started showing more of what he felt which later turned into his undying love for Korra .But yes this ship can be Confusion sometime.

Yeah, but I expect an 18-year old man to know better than a cast of kids aged 12 to 15, who somehow acted much more maturely and rationally than he or even Korra ever has. He was neglectful of Asami, cheated on her without ever acknowledging his unfaithfulness, tried to pass off blame to others when she tried to confront him on it, and rarely took responsibility for his own faults. And his apology to Asami at the end was as half-assed as it could possibly be. He never really fully answered for his failures as both a friend and an ally. And his romantic feelings for Korra are bull. They NEVER got along in the entire first half of the season. He always brushed her off, I don't know why she was into him. Looks are not everything, Korra. If his feelings for Korra are in any way genuine and not merely physical, then they did a horrible job showing that. I still can't believe they got together at the end!
Yes, it's a confusing ship, and one of my least favorites by far. I was actually cool with the idea of Makorra when the show first came on, but now I cannot stand it.

Well, I personally think that people still like Makorra at this point because Korra has never loved anyone before Mako. When all of this drama stirred up, in the end, they DID get together. I believe that it's the power of how fate pulled them to each other after all that makes people drool and go googley-eyed over it.

So she's never experience true love before, that automatically means the first guy she hooks up with is totally okay, even if he's half the time an unsympathetic character? Mako's the right choice because he was Korra's first? I think even she ought to have a higher standard than that, this was just her desperately seeking affection that she was not without. She had friends and family who loved and supported her, and while a meaningful relationship with another guy is a natural desire for any girl, she sure seemed way too eager to get together with the first guy she couldn't take her eyes off of, was she THAT desperate for that kind of love, when she's barely spent more than a few weeks/months away from home for the very first time in her life?
Way to sell yourself short, Korra.

SyrinaKorramaya In reply to GundamSamuraiAkira [2012-12-03 22:33:22 +0000 UTC]
No, it's not even that! It was literally an Avatar thing that the first person they fell in love with would be the ONLY person they would ever love and desire in that way. I mean-Aang and Katara. Kuruk and Ummi. I have no idea who Kyoshi, Roku, and Yangchen got together with, but it's in the facts. I mean, even in your Avatar-Aang and Katara are next to each other, no? Because they love each other so much that they'd put the entire world AFTER the others health and safety. I bet it would have been the same thing with Kuruk and Ummi if Koh had not come around and ruined that.
And why do you have to have such a critical defense to everything everyone else seems to say?

GundamSamuraiAkira In reply to SyrinaKorramaya [2012-12-03 22:39:45 +0000 UTC]
That doesn't have to necessarily be true! Whoever said that was how it always have to work? The Avatar can always find someone better if their first was not the person they were looking for. You're only basing your evidence on two cases so far, nobody knows how it worked for all of the other Avatars, of which there are hundreds of them. Think about that for a second.
Aang and Katara know their duty is to the world as much as it is for each other.
How do you know that? You've never met me before, how would you come off assuming that?

I thought about it for weeks on end BEFORE this came up.
Yeah, I get that--they were kinda the 'saving the world' do-ers before Korra, you know
Because I read all of your comments on this one thing and I'm personally thinking that you are not helping my PTSD, ADHD, or Schizophrenia. Plus, it doesn't help the fact that I am a very confused, messed-up 11 year old girl who is very easily offended and takes all criticism to heart. I really only barged in on this conversation because I felt offended that you were bashing my Canon OTP. I've cried about 7 times today already, and I'm about to start on the 8th. Do you WANT to drive me to depression? Because I HAVE cut myself before.

Okay, I'm just gonna step back for now because if that's true, I don't want to offend you further. Just relax, I'm not criticizing you, I'm just giving my perspective on this. No harm was intended. Though if you've cut yourself, PLEASE DON'T. There's no need to do that to yourself.

Yeah...I get that. I'm sorry for freaking out-I was just in a 'mood'. We can continue with the conversation, but maybe we should just try to open up and understand each others perspective a little more.
