Description In Aalenian Britain, Alan the dinosaur eats his fill as a herd of stegosaurs pass by.
Alan (named after, of course, Alan Grant) is an unnamed sauropodomorph fossil recovered from the Middle Jurassic-aged Saltwick Formation, Yorkshire. This guy actually holds a special place in my heart because at the Yorkshire’s Jurassic World event at the Yorkshire Museum last year they set up a VR thing wherein you could actually feed Alan, so effectively this guy is the closest I’m ever going to get to feeding a real dinosaur! The stegosaurs in the background are based on stegosaurs fossil footprints assigned to the ichnogenus Deltapodus brodricki (also known from the Saltwick Formation), and if that classification is correct they may be amongst the oldest known stegosaur fossils. I mainly based their appearance on Huayangosaurus, Gigantspinosaurus and Jiangjunosaurus.
