=> Malaysia loves to make nicknames and often shortening people' s name. Like "Bangla" for Bangladesh, "Pina" for Philippines and "Indon" for Indonesian. However many Indonesian view Indon as an insult name for Indonesian.

=> Wayang

Wayang is a Javanese word for particular kinds of theatre. The term 'wayang' was derived from Javanese word for "shadow".[2] The word is related to Malay and Indonesian word bayangan (shadow). However today in daily Javanese and Indonesian vocabulary, 'wayang' is most often associated with the puppet itself or the whole puppet theatre performance.

Performances of shadow puppet theatre are accompanied by gamelan in Java, and by gender wayang in Bali.
UNESCO designated Wayang Kulit, a shadow puppet theatre and the best known of the Indonesian wayang, as a Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on 7 November 2003. In return for the acknowledgment, UNESCO required Indonesians to preserve their heritage.[1] Source :[link]

=> Majapahit Empire

Majapahit was a vast thalassocratic archipelagic empire based on the island of Java (modern-day Indonesia) from 1293 to around 1500. Majapahit reached its peak of glory during the era of Hayam Wuruk, whose reign from 1350 to 1389 marked by conquest which extended through Southeast Asia. His achievement is also credited to his prime minister, Gajah Mada. According to the Nagarakretagama (DesawarΓ±ana) written in 1365, Majapahit was an empire of 98 tributaries, stretching from Sumatra to New Guinea;[3] consisting of present day Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, southern Thailand, the Philippines, and East Timor, although the true nature of Majapahit sphere of influence is still the subject of studies among historians.

Majapahit was one of the last major empires of the region and is considered to be one of the greatest and most powerful empires in the history of Indonesia and Southeast Asia, one that is sometimes seen as the precedent for Indonesia's modern boundaries.[4] Its influence extended beyond the modern territory of Indonesia and has been the subject of many studies.[5] German orientalist Berthold Laufer suggested that maja came from the Javanese name of an Indonesian tree.[6] Source :[link]

i just noticed that every girl in the asean family has a flower on their heads huh?

here's a little fun fact about our national flower.

sampaguita is a made up word that spaniards invented dunno' how but some say filipinos were making fun of spaniards when they asked the local name of the jasmine, sampaguita or SUMPA KITA could mean either a romantic "I promise you" or "I curse you".

fact no.2 Researches says that the sampaguita isn't really native to the Philippines it is actually originated to india then it migrated to indonesia then voila it reached the philippines, you could say India thought Indonesia how to do those jasmine flower crown and Indonesia gave it to lil' philippines as a gift. <- you could make that into a short story.

M-M-M-Maja-Majapahit... a-a-abangnya...? But, wasn't Nusantara = Majapahit...?
It's not an insult name. We just love to call people from other nations (that has quite long names) with shortened names like 'Bangla' for Bangladeshi or 'Pina' Filipinos

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Kaigaazuko In reply to MalaysianOtaku [2012-03-21 04:31:16 +0000 UTC]

Bukannya Nusantara tu termasuk semua ASEAN countries. Ku ada terbaca Nusantara tu campuran Nusa(bangsa)and antara(between) yang ertinya Inter-national.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

MalaysianOtaku In reply to Kaigaazuko [2012-03-21 07:15:37 +0000 UTC]
