Oma is a sculptor for the ʻŌpu Tribe. The Kesudari practice the art of Toi whakairo or whakairo for short, which is a Māori traditional art of carving in wood, stone or bone. Oma and her wife Wulan work on various carvings and other sculpted art works for the tribe. Oma is regarded as one of the best sculptors and is experienced in making art from pieces of wood. She was trained by her own mother to make all kinds of wooden sculptures for the members of the tribe. Doing sculptures is actually a fairly common practice for the Kesudari, as many of the expecting mothers fine carving to be a relaxing experience. Oma and her wife are expecting their first children, and often work on making wooden sculptures together, making the bond between the two pregnant women stronger.
