Description This is as far as I can go when it comes to expressive processing digital photographs (further treatment causes greater noise and even the grid).
According to me, that's not enough, but probably someone else could do more.

When are you going to start shooting 35mm b/w?

You mean with film?
Oh, that is my dream but also my headache.
First I have to buy some cameras, and only the best comes in consideration: one rangefinder (Leica ), one SLR (Nikon F3 ), and medium-format camera (Rolleiflex ).
Than I have to buy a scanner.
And, finally, I have to find someone to teach me how to develop film.

Haha, dude it's easy I promise!

There are cheaper alternatives to buying Leicas: like the Fed2 [link]

I've got a Fed4 and it's pretty damn good, but it's a bit bulky.

Same with Rolleiflex, you can get cheaper variations that still work quite well: i.e. rolleicords, yashicas etc - I've even seen Mamiya TLR's go for hardly anything on eBay.

I've been using a crap Epson scanner for my 35mm negatives (which I've borrowed!) - it's pretty decent quality for anything up to 300mm. Again, real cheap on eBay, but ask around, because you might have a friend who has one and doesn't use it, like mine

Developing bit it easy, there are loads of videos on youtube, as well as the digital truth developing chart that tells you how to do everything. Also, you've got friends you can ask on here

You could just pay a lab to develop and scan until you got chemicals and scanner sorted.

I dunno, it's worth a go

To conclude: there is nothing I wish more than transferred to the film, and I will (because this digital is killing me); just need some time.

haha, ok man

Why is digital killing you?

Dionisic In reply to DaveShepherd [2011-07-25 19:30:11 +0000 UTC]

Simply, because it's not a film. It looks disgusting, it has no poetry, it is sterile, it does not have an organic structure. On the one hand, it gives too much detail, on the other hand, does not provide the necessary details. It is all in the lines instead of the plasticity... I have, little by little, gave up shooting many scenes, precisely because it does not perform well in digital photography. In my opinion, the beauty of photography comes only after its processing, and digital photographs (due to lack of information, the small dynamic range ...) doesn't allow a lot of processing.

Wow dude, I didn't expect that

I pretty much 100% agree with you, but I think it comes down to a case of tools for the job, you know? I mean I still shoot loads of digital, but only when it's suited for the subject

The sociological problem of the digital technology is that it is intrusive, and that imposes a taste (or kitsch) from the bottom to the top on the social scale (from ignorant to the experts, rather than vice versa, as it was in the age of film photography).
But there is another thing: there are many people who processed digital photos very good (remove all the negatives that I mentioned), for instance, here on DA: lwc71, cacciatore-di-attimi, and many many others.

Ne dajem tiff ni majci rođenoj.
Kad dođeš u ove krajeve, možeš navratiti do mene, pa da probamo zajedno nešto kemijati. Vidiš li kako se na fotki "Show must go on 12" pojavio raster na desnoj strani? Ne znam je li to normalno kad se pokušava prekomjerno "pushati" digitaliju.
