Dex Entry - Monotyke is a strange pokemon that is still being thoroughly investigated. They seem to share common ancestors to several lines of pokemon that were previously thought to be completely separate.
Monotyke floats out into the surf using their buoyant tail as a platform to hunt. This versatile tail can also be retracted into their bodies leaving only the flat "board" section exposed which can be launched at any would-be attackers.

Creator's Notes
Name Etymology - His name is a combination of tike as in a slang term for a child and Monotremata. An order of egg-laying mammals. It also sounds like monotype which it is the only one of its line.

Design Inspiration - Monotyke is based obviously on a platypus and the surfing culture. I really liked how this line came out though its initial designs gave me a lot of trouble. I couldn't find a way to make the surfboard tail work. However, after looking at the Alolan Raichu design I almost settled on a similar long thin tail base that simulates the safety strap used by surfers however in the end he looked more like a duck so I did a more stretchy rubbery tail.

Fun Fact - The markings on its body are supposed to be similar to tribal tattoos but obviously more simplified.
