Description
At the Los Angeles school, Rarity and Surprise are worried about an imminent algebra test; the other mares, however, aren't, since they are planning to go to Fluttershy's Uncle Breeze's cabin to study all together. Of course, they invite the rest of the mares.

Tom and Sylvester, meanwhile, are having trouble of their own: Cranky Doodle gives them extremely bad report cards, and tells them that if they get another "F" in the next exam, they will be put in detention for the rest of the school year. Tom decides to follow the "mares" in order to get them to do the hard work for them.

On the moon, Tin Nyanko is revealing her plan to Sailor Galaxia: she has summoned the power of the Darkness of Nightmares in order to cause the Sailor Rangers to lose their confidence in themselves, making them easy targets.

At the cabin, the gang go out to eat after an afternoon of studying. The cats, who are humans, enter searching their notes, but the mares quickly come back, forcing them to hide under a bed while they have fun.

During the night, Sailor Tin Nyanko puts her plan in motion: the mares' dream of the worst moments of past battles and bad moments and share a nightmare in which Princess Serenity tells them they are no longer capable of being sailor scouts and strips them of their powers, while Tom and Sylvester share one of their own where they become Cat Rangers themselves and try piloting the Megazord, with hilariously chaotic results.

While Tom and Sylvester shrug off their bad dream, the mares' nightmares leave them frightened and traumatized and they meet up the next morning to confirm what happened. Princess Serenity realizes what has happened and tries contacting the mares. However, they're so terrified even the communicator is enough to make them all jump and initially refuse to answer. Eventually Rainbow Dash does, and Serenity tells them she knows about their Nightmares and how this is Sailor Galaxia and Tin Nyanko's plan. She tells them if they destroy the Darkness of Nightmares they'll get their confidence back. The mares aren't sure if they're capable, but Serenity assures them they can do it and teleports them to the cave where Tin Nyanko and the dark orb are residing.

Outside the cave, the nervous mares are put off their mission when they see a squadron of Phages guarding the cave entrance. Any attempt to leave is stopped when the Phages spot them and force them into a fight, but the mares are so scared they can't bring themselves to fight back and are tossed around. Eventually, Rainbow Dash reacts fast enough to run into the cave. Inside she finds Sailor Tin Nyanko waiting, and although still scared summons the confidence up to fight back. She finally takes her chance and kicks the Darkness of Nightmares, destroying it. Sailor Tin Nyanko curses Rainbow Dash and teleports away.

With the dark orb gone, the mares self-confidence returns as they hear Serenity's voice telling them they've succeeded in their mission and the power will always protect them. With their confidence back, the mares now make short work of the Putties. There's no time to celebrate, as Tin Nyanko and Sedusa show up and are made to grow by Sailor Galaxia. The mares transform and summon Megazord, who quickly sends the two fleeing back to the moon.

The mares all get "A's" on the test, much to their happiness. Tom and Sylvester manage to avoid getting "F's" on their test... unfortunately, this is by getting "Super F's", instead assuring them another long stretch of detentions. Cranky Doodle expresses his disappointment with the cats for flunking the test. However, he accidentally flings the chalk dust in the erasers towards them which causes Tom to sneeze his whiskers off.
