At Rainbow Junior High, Rainbow Sparkle is walking to the school. Shield Wing approaches her from behind. To make sure his memories were erased, Rainbow Sparkle questions if he remembers anything, to which he has forgotten and runs off teasing her. Captain Leo walks by greeting Rainbow Sparkle, who then looks at him in awe. Lily and Calina come up to Rainbow Sparkle, annoyed at her interaction with Leo. She then take out photos she developed for the newspaper. As they discuss their roles in managing the monthly paper, the subject of finishing their due homework comes up, to which Rainbow Sparkle had forgotten and freaks out not knowing what to do.

In the alicorn world, Opaline Arcana assigns the alicorn Rocky along with his alicorn minion Lime to take over Dark Blue’s mission in search of the Crystal Heart and defeating the rainbow angels. Following her commands, Rocky acquires the assistance of the three alicorns Puffy Puff, Fire Blitz and Cloudy Quartz to help find the Crystal Heart.

Back at school, Rainbow Sparkle is yelled at by her teacher for forgetting her homework and is forced to take out the classroom trash. Shield Wing appears and teases her once more for not doing her homework and walks away soon after. As she becomes irritated at this, her teacher comes out frustrated at her continuous missed homework assignments and much to Rainbow Sparkle's dissatisfaction orders her to clean the library alone as punishment. In the news office, she goes up to the girls to ask them for help cleaning the library, but they tell her to do it by herself and ignore her pleads.

Somewhere in the city, Puffy and Fire tell Rocky what they want if they find the Crystal Heart while Cloudy holds her request until the mission is complete. Rocky orders them to work as a team and the three alicorns leave on their new mission, not knowing of Rocky pretending to keep his promise.

At the school library, Rainbow Sparkle cleans the floors talking to Misty Brightdawn about her frustrations with her friends’ lack of help. Thunder suddenly strikes near the building, scaring the two and causing them to run into one of the bookshelf's. As more thunder lights the library, two figures come into frame, scaring them again. The figures are shown to be Lily and Calina, who state they stopped by to check up on Rainbow Sparkle. However, it’s revealed that they went to her to retrieve photos from a school soccer match to use for the school newspaper. It’s then that more thunder eluminates a opened town almanac the girls notice and read it to use as possible material for the school newspaper.

As the girls look through the book, Lily reads a passage detailing an event happening a 100 years ago on a summer night. During the construction of Rainbow campus, a light shower has fallen down on the town of clouds, especially near the school. After conducting a investigation, no one was able to explain the cause for the mysterious event. Discussing what they read, Lily speculates to the girls that the light shower may have had to do with Flurry Heart sending the Crystal Heart to Earth.

Meanwhile, Fire Blitz is seen above the school sensing the hope and love and presuming the Crystal Heart to be nearby. The girls continue to discuss the event, linking the strong hope and love to the campus and indicating that the Crystal Heart may be somewhere in the school. Suddenly, the girls turn their attention to someone screaming.

Fire Blitz is seen using her thunder powers to find the Crystal Heart by striking the school buildings, electrocuting the students as a result. The girls run out of the library to find many people unconscious and swiftly transform into the rainbow angels.

Fire Blitz strikes the library building, revealing one of the murals inside to emanate a strong aura. As she checks the mural and partially destroys it, the rainbow angels confront her. They evade Fire's attack, but are then taken down by a loud sound attack. It’s then that Puffy Puff along with Cloudy Quartz appear and the three alicorns race to see who can get the Crystal Heart first. They soon strike the mural with their powers, but don’t find the Crystal Heart within it. Out of anger, Fire Blitz rushes towards the weakened rainbow angels and plans to attack them.

Before Fire Blitz can defeat them, Puffy and Cloudy state from Rocky’s words they must work together and the three decide to combine their powers to summon the alicorn named Thunder. From their commends, Thunder wraps them in his electricity. It’s then that Leopold stops his attack and motivates the rainbow angels to fight the alicorns. Hope and Creative use the Hope Rainbow and Creative Crayon Attack to disorient Thunder. Rainbow uses the Prism Flash and purifies him. The other three alicorns escape having no purpose to stay. As part of Leopold saving the angels, they give him bouquets and celebrate their victory.

In the alicorns hideout, Rocky becomes irritated at the defeat of the three alicorns. Lime suggests to him that the girls work alone, but he strongly opposes the idea. Back at school, Rainbow Sparkle's teacher scolds her for the mess having been left in the library despite her excuses. As further punishment, she orders Rainbow Sparkle to put back all of the fallen books. Lily and Calina watch the ordeal and are asked by Rainbow Sparkle to help her. The two girls walk in the other direction, pretending to be busy with the paper, making Rainbow Sparkle scream at them.
