Verdanthrax was once a guardian of nature, a majestic green dragon that soared through the skies of the Emerald Canopies, the vast forests in the realm of Myrloch Vale. In the early aeons, Verdanthrax was revered by druids and elves, who worshipped him as a divine protector of the natural order.
Backstory:
However, as centuries passed, a cataclysm struck Myrloch Vale. A dark cult, seeking to harness the primordial forces of life and death, unleashed a terrible curse upon the forest. Verdanthrax was caught in the epicenter of this malevolent spell. As the curse seeped into his scales, his mind was twisted, and his once-noble purpose was corrupted. His connection to the land deepened, but it became a conduit of decay rather than growth.
Transformed into an avatar of corruption, Verdanthrax's breath, once a carrier of life-giving energies, became a miasma of disease and poison. The forests he once protected began to wither, and the creatures within them either fled or were transformed into twisted versions of their former selves. Verdanthrax's lair, once a sacred grove within the heart of the forest, became a swampy tomb known as the Blighted Hollow, a place feared by all.
Name and Legend:
Now known as Verdanthrax the Plaguebringer, the dragon is surrounded by legends and feared as a force of natural destruction. It is said his very presence brings blight to the land, corrupting flora and fauna alike, leaving behind a trail of pestilence. Adventurers and heroes from far and wide seek the Blighted Hollow, either to obtain the potent alchemical components that can be harvested from Verdanthrax's corrupted domain or to put an end to his plague-spreading existence.
Despite his malevolent transformation, some sages believe that Verdanthrax retains a sliver of his former self, struggling against the curse. They speculate that if the curse were to be lifted, Verdanthrax might once again become the protector of Myrloch Vale. Until then, he remains a terrifying being of pestilence and decay, a dragon whose name is whispered in fear and respect: Verdanthrax the Plaguebringer.
