Forged from obsidian shards tempered in the desolate void between planes, Soulreaver is an unholy runeblade that drinks in the essence of those it slays. Its jagged edge thrums with profane sigils transcribed from the forbidden grimoires of ancient soul-trading defilers who sought to cheat death itself through eldritch pacts.

It is whispered that this dire weapon was originally crafted by a cabal of warlocks who daubed its onyx length in their own lifeblood, consecrating it as an eternal phylactery to bind their souls after mortality's expiry. However, the ritual went awry - the blade itself awakened with dread sentience and sheared their ethereal essences into its runic matrix to fuel its endless existential hunger.

Any wielder foolish enough to attune themselves to Soulreaver risks being ensnared in the endless cycle of its insatiable soul-consumption, steadily drained of their own vital animus with each life it devours.

Properties:
Quintessence Shred: The blade's runic edge disrupts the metaphysical cohesion of living souls. Critical hits cleave a portion of the target's lifeforce and spiritual essence from their physical form to charge the blade.
Animus Shockwave: As a bonus action, the wielder can unleash a torrent of stolen anguished spirits bound within Soulreaver. All creatures within 20 feet must make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw or be stunned for 1 round as discorporate wails of anguish assault their psyche.
Soulforged Revivification: If dropped to 0 hit points, the wielder can expend a charge to instantly restore themselves to full hit points and temporary hit points equal to the total number of souls currently trapped within the blade.

Curses:
Essence Ablation: With each use of Soulreaver's vile abilities, the wielder's immortal spiritual essence is steadily siphoned away, permanently reducing their maximum hit points by 10 until they are reduced to 1 hp - a hollow empty husk impervious to healing effects.
Final Soul-Binding: If the wielder's mortal form is completely drained while attuned to the blade, their immortal soul-spark is ensnared within Soulreaver's runic matrix, forever becoming one of the endless chorus of tormented spirits fueling its hungering edge.

Use In Campaign:
A malefic runeblade of endless hunger, Soulreaver represents the existential precipice where immortal essence and uncompromising mortality intersect. Each time its cursed edge consumes a life, it grows stronger, feeding from the surplus animus torn free from the slain - while in turn slowly ablating its wielder's own dwindling vitality. Mastering the blade's dread power thereby requires steadily sacrificing more of oneself, risking utter annihilation as a hollowed remnant - a wretched vessel from which the final embers of the wielder's ruined soul are inevitably devoured into Soulreaver's eternal profane chorus. Yet some sects believe that by fully surrendering oneself to the blade's endless cycle of consumption, an ultimate transcendence may be achieved - the soul's liberation as part of Soulreaver's multitudes, free from fragile mortal shells at last.
