Ninjas ComingA couple of YF-23 with their sexy curvy lines, passing over gorgeous snowy mountains. I hope you like it. Comments are welcomed.
"YF-23 was an American single-seat, twin-engine fighter aircraft designed for the United States Air Force (USAF). The design was a finalist in the USAF's Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) competition, battling the Lockheed YF-22 for a production contract. I always thought the Northrop design looked better than the YF-22.

I personally think the F-22A to be more beautiful, but this one looks futuristic at certain angles. But looking at it from the top makes it seem like a plate

The YF-23 was faster and stealthier than the YF-22, but the F-22 was picked for better maneuverability.

I still think this one would make an awesome strike fighter to support the F-22. Looks and feels more "right" than the 35, but that's just an opinion.

The F-35 is supposed to replace the F-16, A-10 and the F-18, as a striker, but the YF-23 was developed as an air superiority fighter fitted mostly for air-air missions, so I do not think it could replace the fat F-35. It has some sexy curves, I agree with you, but I like the F-22 more

Yeah, I'm aware of that. But some studies were made a few years ago which considered the possibility of adapting the basic F-23 design for the strike fighter role, has the aircraft possesses a rather large weapons bay.
With that said, I do agree with you, the Raptor has better curves and it's an all-around better plane, but it doesn't hurt to imagine how it would be to have both birds flying and supporting each other.

I actually have not heard about the F-35's weapon bays being big, I only heard that it was too fat/over stuffed with technological equipments in order to fulfil the role it is expected to do. But I read an article the other day, which says the F-22 must hang around because the F-35 cannot defend itself without the F-22. But I understand your point

Oh, no the F-35's bay is rather small, holds two bombs and two AIM-120s (at leats util re-designed AIM-120s come into service). The F-23 is the one with a large bay: yf-23.net/Pics/Plans/PAV1%20weβ¦
That's why it was considered for the strike role a few years ago.
The F-35 only carries a truly heavy payload with external stores. And, yes, the F-35 can't defend itself. It does have sensors and modern weapons but doesn't have the acceleration and speed to make dash and run strikes or to simply flee. It's a flying brick, unfortunatelly.

One of the best looking stealth aircraft IMO, shame it wasn't chosen. It was stealthier than the F-22, but was slightly more expensive.Β

I won't lie to you. I only like the cockpit/front part of this plane but not the rest of it. The raptor is more aerodynamic and looks sexier from multiple angles

I appreciate your honesty here. I do like the F-22 Raptor, but for me there is just a sexier, spacier, more futuristic look to the F-23 that I like. While I do like the F-22, to me it always looks like an updated stealthier F-15. Now, this isn't meant as an insult or a bad thing or a slouch to the F-15. Because I love the F-15 and think it's an awesome looking an overall outstanding a plane too with a great history behind it. I just think the F-23 was a much more unique looking a plane, and did seem to have a lot to offer, and it was always just a shame someone didn't do more with it ala what happened with the "losing " competitor in the YF-16, YF-17 competition that produced both the excellent F-16 and F-18 series of aircraft. I do know a bomber version of the YF-23 was proposed, again it's just too bad it went nowhere.
Well, even though you're not that fond of the F-23, even more kudos to you for making such a wonderful looking a portrait of what it might have looked like operationally. My hat's off to you in much gratitude.
