Description This is actually a project for my college Typography class.  The goal here was to create a book cover for a classic book using the Gestalt technique.  I first drew this up to scale on Photoshop using my pen and tablet.  I then transferred it to Illustrator as a template and then traced everything using the various vector tools.  The text used for the book description and about the author were taken directly from a copy of Dune I managed to get from the library.   When doing research for the book Barnes and Noble's website said that the Penguin Group is he current publisher for the Dune books.  So that is why I did not use the Ace logo for this project.  The font I used for the word "Dune" is called Grothrough from dafont.com and designed by Steve Kettell (www.stevekettell.co.uk).  The bar code on the back actually works too.  I went to Bars and Noble and took a picture of the bar code from the back of a hard cover version of Dune.

Thank you.  We were limited to three colors for the assignment. The instructor showed us how to make spot colors in Illustrator.  From what I gather a spot color is just a color with white added to it.  In the case of printing, turning down the opacity of that color to allow the paper to seep through.
