Great work, the attention is so masterfully driven to a clear point at the first sight but there are still lots of details to keep the viewer's eyes busy for a while.

dizzykid In reply to paulmellor [2011-04-20 15:56:04 +0000 UTC]

thanks Paul, im good - didnt really take too long if i were to compress the time spent working on it together - the time was just really spread out over a longer period! haha

cool stuff!!
looks great anyway.
You working on anything new?
Ive been on a business start up course to try go self employed as an artists part time.Just doing portraits of pets and people working from home.
Between building and joinery work so at least i will have something to fall back on i guess!

Ive been doing a small A5 sized Portrait of my son but the card i have used is too grainy so doesnt blend smooth how i want it. crap!!
But ive ordered some Bristol board to use in future again
What paper do you use for charcoal and what do you use for pencil ??
I need to experiment more with other papers.
Also what charcoal do you use?

best of luck - im going on vacation this next week in search of new things and inspiration so everything is on hold right now! - bristol works nice but ive had problems with it if you like to use the eraser alot .. especially subtractive work - after awhile it tends to not want to hold up as well and flake off .. but i always liked the texture - ive pretty much always used the Arches hotpress watercolor paper - either 140 lb. or 210 lb. - it puts up with alot of abuse - i like Generals coal pencils .. like the ones on my front page (ID) - the other graphite are Sanford Ebony pencils (kind of a darker lead) - other then that pretty much any graphite pencils work fine (Derwent, Faber Castell, Kimberly) - though im always on the lookout for trying something new

oh cool man. where you going ? anywhere nice ?
Theres lots of inspiration here in the mountains by the form of fungi haha
welsh mushrooms are everywhere
i shall look them papers up
The charcoal i have been using is called Boldmere charcoal and the whole pencil is compressed charcoal not just the insides of it.
I tried wooden charcoal pencils that you have to sharpen and that just drove me mad cos everytime i tried sharpening the lead broke!!
If you email me your adress i shall send you some over
Im going to pic a few packs up in the week so il pic ya one up n pop it in the post!!
I cant find any other brands that do the whole pencil compressed , only ones that are thick charcoal sticks.
do you ever use white charcoal on your drawings ?

dizzykid In reply to paulmellor [2011-04-30 22:06:26 +0000 UTC]

thanks D - that sucks they kicking you around and sucks the drawing is better smaller since its much bigger!

Denis-Peterson In reply to dizzykid [2011-04-11 02:24:52 +0000 UTC]

i think its all about scale and the focal distance from the computer screen (in my case, laptop) that it is viewed. so smaller high resolution image on screen is prob closer to the visual impression in real life distance from larger actual artwork, if that makes any sense

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dizzykid In reply to Denis-Peterson [2011-04-11 04:02:48 +0000 UTC]

haha .. yes, you make no sense but it is what it is! - the computer screen is a funny teaser to the real deal, as per all your work!
