I decided to go for a kind of comic book feel as far the colours and shading goes.
I have NO complaints about how this turned out.
None.
That's a pretty cool feeling.

You caught me being a little bit facetious.
Here the colors look good by themselves, and a princess with a nice scarf and ice bag is cute. The only thing that confuses my brain is trying to figure out where the light source is for the shading. With Celestia there isn't a lot, but what there is seems mostly fine: The shadow of the bedspread's edge on our right could be broken into three parts to match the three "depths" and shapes for her shoulder, wing and the bed itself, but that's minor.
The bigger issue is that If the light is coming from our left then it explains the shading of Luna's left side (and inner foreleg) but conflicts with her rump and hair being darker. Looking at her face, the main lighting source seems to be from above and at least as far back as they are.

Yeah, this is a definitely a shading for shading sake (ie, making it look cool) without thinking of a light source. That'll be the next "next level", but I've already played with that a bit in the "Midnight Snack Denied" pic.
