I've been trying to make custom brushes for a scene like this, but it hasn't been turning out well at all. Got any pointers?

zharcus - really appreciate the encouragement...and unfortunately, the original is just a few pixels bigger than that. i'll make sure to work on a larger scale next time.

Mmmm... I can hear San-Angeles saxophones wailing in the back of my head. (That was a Bladerunner/Vangelis ref in case you missed it). Lush, atmospheric, a fine specimen, and compliment to speedpainting.

Curious; what's the exact function/construction of the huge screen-like area on the left?

Yeah! I like big scene like this and you rock!! Especially the lighting, strong and demanding ,if you don't bother to put up more colors to bring whole thing more alive... do it next time! Gosh, can i have a larger version of this ^^, as a desktop-sized?
