Beautiful photo! Great composition; the huge rock in the foreground, the grass behind the rock, the trees, the dark mountains and the dark sky, the sun coming from behind the mountains. I like it that the foreground is lighter than the background. The rock looks amazing, I like the colours and the different textures on it.

Hmm, I actually don't like this one as much as the others. Not that it's bad at all, but it just doesn't strike me in the same way - perhaps I find the grad filter a bit too obvious? But it certainly is a nice scene with plenty to look at: the rock, then the trees, and the hills.

Nice going with the large rock in the foreground, the grass and the trees going off toward the horizon, however I think I might have tried another shot with the rock less central, even if it meant having it half out of the frame or pulling back a bit for a landscape shot, although it still works pretty well as it is with the deep moss patterns and that. Amazing what a couple of filters and a nice camera can do for an image though eh? Nice to see someone actually using filters too, too many people just leave that stuff to the computer and it's never quite the same imo (especially not polarizing!).
At 1/10 of a second exposure, you surely had plenty of time to try out lots of different angles and ideas. Did you consider making a longer exposure before sunrise? Maybe increase the f-stop and add an ND filter, makes for interesting effects sometimes with the sun rising or setting quickly in the sky!

Looks great to me

Awesome. I love the moodiness in this shot. The detail is fantastic and you captured it really well. The only thing I would probably try is placing the rock at the bottom slightly off centre or positioning it in the bottom right hand corner. At the moment it is a little overpowering on the rest of the landscape.

However, even like this the shot is superbly composed. Definitely a

Thank you for the feedback... Landscapes are great using the rule of the third like the one you just explained. but rules are meant to be broken right?? just kidding! I'll keep you suggestion in mind so I can try it next time I shoot landscapes...

Also thanks for the !!

crazy1ady In reply to djoel [2005-06-18 21:36:23 +0000 UTC]

It wasnt so much about using rules... I ignore the rules generally, I would have liked to have seen it composed differently as a comparison... Its still a fantastic shot though

i saw this on~Nature-Club and just wanted to let you know this is great. i love the focus and composition of the shot - especially the focus on the rock in the foreground. snowdonia just always seems to look so vibrant and deep in colour when i see it in photos. i really must go there one day, but thanks for sharing.. it's fantastic

a very good pic. the colours look well defined (im using a laptop so im nt sure if what i see is correct).

i would have liked to see all of the rock in this pic but the composition is still ok.

Snowdonia is better in snow IMO. You should check out my Snowdonia series i made from the 2 most richest rolls of Kodachrome i ever made

BRAVO BRAVO! the ND grad and CPL work so beautifully in this scene! Such great control of both foreground and background elements, great details and i can feel as if im almost IN the landscape and the wilderness. Beautiful job and like always an instant , what i love the most is how the brightness of the foreground is also captured in the sky which almost seems to be on fire. WONDERFUL!
