I just can't figure colored pencils our lol
I don't know, maybe I use the wrong kind of paper? What do you use?

This is so awesome, and a ton of detail for a Chibi! I love her!

I just use normal printing paper Nothing fancy. And I colored this one with Prismacolor Scholar coloring pencil (they get pretty affordable during back to school sales), Thou if you like something softer (more pastel like and less wax like) I'd recommend Faber Castel's Polychromos, thou those one are really expensive. Prismacolor work just fine to my opinion.

The trick is usually to press reaaaallly softly on the sheet of paper, and go from really pale to darker. You can also blend color, for exemple using a pale blue first and then darkening it with a darker blue as needed
And as the drawing is nearing completion, you go back on the already colored place to darken them if need.

And of course, practice makes perfect! It takes a while to get the hang of it, and as you practice you develop your own technique. Of you go far back in my gallery you can see that I've come a long way. ;D

And Thanks! I'm really glad you do!

No! Printer paper!? It'll get destroyed! T~T
You need to laminate it or something!

Geeking out aside, thanks million for the tips! I think I've been too focused on the amount of tooth in my paper to actually practice lol I'm going to try it out in my sketchbook, and hopefully I can get something (half) as good as this!

It's all about keeping the final result in a safe place! And like I said, Prismacolor have a more wax like quality: they usually dont get destroyed or smudged easily (Unlike dry pastel drawings). (My final drawings are all in binders inside plastics sheets btw)

And you're welcome! As I said, practice make perfects! If you want a good practice, trying to replicate a photo with pencil can help you develop a range of color mixing that you can then integrate in your drawings (and discover mixing you wouldn't think of, like putting blue or purple in your shadows istead of pink or brown, and so on). That and trying to imitate someones coloring (I personnally used to look up HIsekai drawings as I colored, and nowadays I often go take a look at Ganevieve Godbout's drawings rose-a-petits-pois.blogspot.ca… . Personnally, it really helps ehancing my technique!

Finally as a last bit of knoledge id recommend you to never use black in your shadows unless it's really necessary. It makes the colors look dirty. usually a redish brown, a dark blue or a purple work better (but feel free to try any other color! You could have really nice discovery .)

Thanks for even more good advice!

That art is amazing! I can't believe it isn't digital!

But you are right about colored pencils. I gave a failed attempt to some little kids I know, and the piece had been dropped, crushed, and had stuff spilled on it, and the color was still fine! Lol
