Description Count the legs! 2, 4, 6... 8?

Yes, 8 legs! This is not an ant, it's an ant-mimic spider! We saw this spider on a midnight hike, waving its front legs like antennae. Simply amazing! The constrictions on the cephalothorax look remarkably like the thorax of an ant.

This is a female Myrmecium sp. (Araneae: Corinnidae)

Dear DLLavaneras, my name is David F. Candiani, I'm Biologist and in the year of 2012 I defended my PhD. in the phylogeny of Myrmecium (Araneae: Corinnidae) at Museu Paraense Emilio Goeldi (state of Pará, Brazil) , this year I pretend to submit my manuscript to Zootaxa journal, and, passing through the internet, I saw this photo here in DevianArt, I was thinking if you can permit the non-commercial use, so I'd like to ask you if I can use your photo of Myrmecium (with credits of course).

thaks in advance

David

Hey now I know what the bugs from the pattern on my blanket cover that were trying to look like ants only with four segments and eight legs actually are! 8D

Thanks! I knew they existed, but this was my first time actually seeing one of them live.

The mimic of this spider is awsome, it really caught my attention. The focus is also well done. Maybe you could try different composition, but this one is good for documentary purpose, when you want to show the number of legs

Thank you for the constructive criticism!

I would have loved to try a different composition, but two things stopped me from doing so: The midnight hikes, and consequently the pictures, were mainly for educational purposes, so I had to be more of a scientific photographer than an artistic one. The second reason was that I had about 3 seconds to take a series of 6 pictures of this spider. It's difficult to compose well when you've got that small a time frame!
