Description This is what happens when you commission a painting and ask me to "Paint whatever you want."
This digital work is definitely a homage to Frank Frazetta, and it has been christened a "furzetta" for obvious reasons.
Oddly the Elephant and Gazelle gave me the least trouble. It was the foreground figure, the gazelle's robes, and the Elephant's weapon that presented the greatest challenges.
The Foreground figure wasn't hard to paint, but it also isn't the figure I originally envisioned which was a naked male mongoose figure. But the difficulty of painting the fur covered muscles proved too great, and I had to change the figure to the hunched and sinister figure you see here. Arguably, this makes for a more interesting tableau with a more dramatic backstory.
The weapon was awkward to visualize because I'm so used to painting metal weapons, and in this particular fantasy setting they're all made of magic crystal. So I went for a jade look.
I did this painting so that it might serve as art that could be used by my friend Scott Jones as an illustration for his Shard RPG. (  www.shardrpg.com/ ) I felt the mixture of Frazetta and anthropomorphics had not been sufficiently explored as an artistic endeavour.

Beautiful colours.

A very V. Segrellis feel to the colours.

I recal reading an article/interview oh so long ago in a 'Fanzine'. Mr Segrellis is an avid fan of anatomy as well as history. It's something that shows in his strive for depicting his fantastic visions with as much 'realism' as he can.

It was his depiction of a multi shot brass cannon which was, itself, based on very early black powder experiments at over comming the slow reload times of the muzzle loaders of the day. Am pretty sure Mr Segrellis actually visited the armory where such a weapon was on display.

Very much cheers to you and yours.

Adore it!  I was wondering if this was a Shard piece.  More furzetta, please!
