Description Well i drew this in try to clear off my artblock. Its already partially cleared.

I was watching back the old mecha anime series Metal Armor Dragonar, so i sort off felt like redesigning Kaine Wakaba's D-1.

I kept most of the design as close to the original and gave it a large high speed lifter pack and a 1300 mm Flax cannon. in addition two belt attached 1000 mm machine cannons, other than that the other weapons are more or less the same as the original one.

Thanks dude, was a little bored with plain background so decided to give it a little deco.

honeycomb is the ultimate harmonic design in nature besides the spiral...

and

it's inherent modular perfection and natural strength in structural performance is unsurpassed...

definitely something humans need to study and incorporate more in there architecture and engineering projects..

Buckminster Fuller used modular design concepts in his innovation of the geodesic dome designs... (walt disney used the design for the future world..etc)

he studied atomic structures, atoms and molecules for structural strength and inncorporated the designs in his architecure...

the innovative desiners are out there.. their thoughts are just too extreme and radical for the common man... (daily use and purposes)

lol yeah, but somehow ppl still end up pointing honeycomb too closely related to bee's. Just a typical mindset of human and their thinking. XD

This is awesome, I like every detail of this ms. You are very talented mecha artist and your works have always very original and beautiful design.

LOL its not a MS but a Metal Armor. This is the same guy that created of Gespent's, (and the other custom variant) you can say its his earlier works and if you look at the original will note the similarities.

Certainly better than the old Design

dlredscorpion In reply to Rekkou [2008-04-25 06:07:09 +0000 UTC]

LOL the old just looks too bulky to fly, by my standards. The least the could done is give the unit a larger lifter pack.

Very cool man Nice to see some old school love. I remember Dragonar 1, it was a pretty cool Gundam knockoff from the golden 80s era of anime robot shows. Quite cool.

dlredscorpion In reply to VulnePro [2008-04-23 07:24:49 +0000 UTC]

LOL its was good series, only downfall was the old animation and unrealistic weight ratio for the mechs. XD D-1 itself nearly touched 100 tons with the lifter pack attached. XD

VulnePro In reply to dlredscorpion [2008-04-23 07:32:17 +0000 UTC]

Sadly I only saw a few episodes of it. Liked the designs and look of it. I also dug SPT Layzner from that same period as well, actually liked that show a good deal more.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

dlredscorpion In reply to VulnePro [2008-04-23 07:35:13 +0000 UTC]

Well hopefully there is an attachment story to the series like what they are doing with Dunbine, Macross and some super robots so far.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

VulnePro In reply to dlredscorpion [2008-04-23 07:42:40 +0000 UTC]

Hard to say on that, prob we're only going to see well known stuff like Macross make comebacks such as Frontier (which seems to be classic Macross good so far). Then again you never know? Clearly Japan is looking for new ideas or continuing to recycle old ones. Remakes are the safe route so I wouldn't be surprised to see more old shows redone. Time will tell.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

dlredscorpion In reply to VulnePro [2008-04-23 07:45:58 +0000 UTC]

LOL as for mecha i think they are recycling them. The new ones so far are doing badly and i think they are hoping to buy time so they can come up with something impressive and eye catching as they did back then.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

VulnePro In reply to dlredscorpion [2008-04-23 07:50:58 +0000 UTC]

Aye, so far I haven't seen a lot I'm digging. Macross does seem cool so far but only cause it seems to capture more the feel of the original show than the loopiness Macross Zero had, even though it did have some nice battle scenes. I, like many of us, grew up on mecha shows so clearly that's where my fondness for the genre comes from. The whole Theos project was something, for me, to try to explore this childhood love in a way that felt different and hopefully new. There's so much I want to do that I haven't seen yet or if I have seen it at least do in a different way. Time will tell but I do feel there's still plenty of room to create something new in a familiar genre.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

dlredscorpion In reply to VulnePro [2008-04-23 07:59:26 +0000 UTC]

Ah i share what you. All the new series and some remake of the old one seems to have lost that original feel, that magic which makes boys (maybe some girls) get all excited looking at a mech and all it coolness. Something like the dream to be able to see one of this come to life, that kind of feel. And also good pilot designs that i think that has more impact than some of the newer made pilots.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

VulnePro In reply to dlredscorpion [2008-04-23 08:17:42 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. The utter absurd levels of pretty boy pilots in the new shows is getting kinda crazy. I won't lie, I'm keenly aware girls will watch this stuff if you give them male characters who have some eye candy but i also feel that can be done wisely not undermining the believability of the character. Girling em up really stretches it as to believability. Having a realistically handsome character is not out of the realm of believability though.

I'm also rather tired of the teenage pilot thing so don't expect to see a single one in my work. All of them are in their 20s and older.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

dlredscorpion In reply to VulnePro [2008-04-23 08:24:29 +0000 UTC]

Ahahahaha i so with you on that point. I agree that pilot should be 20's year and above. Cause realistically, teen's are too immature and emotional to be ace pilots yet.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

VulnePro In reply to dlredscorpion [2008-04-23 08:35:57 +0000 UTC]

Overall I'd have to say that would be the case. Clearly Japan does a lot of teen pilot shows because that's where the intended viewing audience is. All well and good but it's become such an expected cliche that only the really well written stuff stands out above the rest. I just think it's more digestible, and interesting, to have characters a little older and world weary if you're gonna put them inside some big-ass walking death machine LOL Otherwise you're gonna have a basket case, like Shinji was in Eva. Pretty much what would likely happen, they would snap.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

dlredscorpion In reply to VulnePro [2008-04-23 08:45:35 +0000 UTC]

Ahahaha indeed. Like you said Shinji was the greatest example of all time. My only hope is the market will go a big round an return to what it was originally.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

VulnePro In reply to dlredscorpion [2008-04-23 08:54:40 +0000 UTC]

Yeah Shinji was pretty well fleshed out. A lot of folks hated the character for his weakness but overall it was more convincing he was a mess than not considering what he went through. Hell of a lot for a teenager to digest, for anyone really. Clearly that has influenced many of the better shows that followed as to the whole young pilot thing. Still I'd rather see adults in the pilot seats for a change. They can be young, 20somethings is fine. 13, 14 that's a bit much. Again teen wunderkind pilot has been done so much anymore.

Now this is a nice redesign. I never seem to use that unit as much in ACE2 and 3(never seen the anime, though.). Can't wait to see the actual colors.

dlredscorpion In reply to SealSlammer [2008-04-22 05:41:07 +0000 UTC]

LOL the color will be the same as the original bro, don't have plan to change them or they wont look like Wakaba' s theme at all.

I started watching this last week and am so stoked to see you drawing this!
Guessing the ammo clips can no longer be loaded from the wrist? That clip is gigantic!

LOL that cannon is shoot, finish ammo, dump the gun. Etc. like what Wakaba do a lot with his machine gun when he wants to use the beam sabers.

kinzokusama In reply to dlredscorpion [2008-04-22 06:00:48 +0000 UTC]

It's just very hard to ignore how bad the animation is XD

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

dlredscorpion In reply to kinzokusama [2008-04-22 06:12:21 +0000 UTC]

LOL bro, its a very very old series. If you can survive through this, you can survive all the other older mecha anime series.

Remember back then, animation tech were very early so they had to do things almost hands on.

šŸ‘: 0 ā©: 1

kinzokusama In reply to dlredscorpion [2008-04-22 06:43:46 +0000 UTC]

I know, I know. It's 1988, but Zeorymer came out the same year. I guess the OVAs get alot more time and money for the project. I've actually tried to sit through the original 0079 Gundam too, so I'm almost used to the animation XD

Random, but any chance we'll be seeing you draw Zeorymer soon? lol

How did you get into designing stuff for companies btw?

dlredscorpion In reply to kinzokusama [2008-04-22 10:55:14 +0000 UTC]

LOL i work my way in... or to be precise i was really picked up by a talent scout from my company. Then the rest is just to prove if you have what it takes to stay in the company.

kinzokusama In reply to dlredscorpion [2008-04-22 23:44:13 +0000 UTC]
