I also use episodes I get off of iTunes for color refs... At least I did until an update effed up Quicktime' ability to play those kind of files.

I don't even buy digital games unless they only come that way.
Hartman's shows have relied a lot on solid colors, but as evidenced by the jaggies in that picture, it may not have been the best idea, even if his shows still look pretty good overall.
I'm guessing they use either Photoshop or Illustrator. I've used the latter in early works of mine and I had the same problem with clearly visible jaggies. I didn't use anti-aliasing back then for some reason... and apparently, neither do the background artists.

I was mostly referencing movies and music... with games, I'm more worried about the whole DRM thing as well as the matters of ownership (since in most cases, you don't purchase a copy of the game, you purchase a license to use it β a license which can be revoked at any time). This is why I stick to physical copies of games if I can, and only purchase digital copies during big sales (e.g. -75 to -90% off).
I suspect they left the aliasing on purpose as it helps to fill in colours on the same layer with inks with ease. The problem with DP's case is, however, that they did not anticipate (or have the budget) to ensure the show would be representable in HD. The more recent TFOP episodes do take this into account, and if you go to Flickr to check out the backgrounds/title cards they've created for them, you'll notice that their original resolution is pretty freaking insane. Reduction to 1080p then creates aliasing by default, and retains the crisp, sharp look.
Or, at least, this is what I theorize them doing. I have zero experience when it comes to professional animation so I don't really know shit.

Not HD, but rather SD. I'd love to have it on HD but I doubt they'll put out a release like that.

You're color blind? For real? Or was that just a joke about not knowing how to pick colours?

I am red/green colorblind (it also affects more shades). Here you have an example of how I see things:Β mariahgem.tumblr.com/post/6431β¦
(However, I suspect it isn't a perfect simulation sinceΒ I can see that some colors on the right are slightly darker; but I still identify them as the same color)
