it is used to emphasize a reason, like:
I look for work because I need money, it maintains me busy and also because I meet people but "mas que nada", because I need money
or....
why did you sell the t.v.?.... "mas que nada" because i need the money (....yes, all itΒ΄s about money to me XD)
in the last sentence we used "mas que nada" to say just one reason and explain it quickly

so we use it as an expression to give a reason for something, but the reason is always the money. that's what i understood
