It's one of my fav photo's. It's about life and who unreachable somethings look.

What do you think?
Do you think humans can reach or play God? Do you believe in God(s), yes, who or what do you think she or he is, for what is he or she responsible?

My vision
I believe in god, but in a clear way, not in a fairytale way. For example I think he or she maybe responsible for the creation of the universe, because even the best scientist can't give a reasonable answer, on the question what came before the big bang. How can you go from nothing to everything? I think a creative answer can be found in art. Everytime we start a work with a empty mind, empty photoshop document, a empty canvas, .... And when we start we go from nothing to something. You need intelligence and creativity for that, in order to go from something to nothing. I've tried to find something whitout intelligence and creativity who can create something from nothing, well I failed. Do you know one?

But I also believe we can't figure out the reality, every try to understand is a guess, a attempt to catch light. Because understanding how creation works is like knowing who baby's are made before your even born. To be short I believe the answer is unreachable.

Feel free to protest, I love knowing someones vision about religion. There's only one rule, Have respect for different meanings.

I think this fits nicely with the whole being isolated, or swallowed up by the greedy love of another.

A jealous lover perhaps? stealing all but the soul of their partner only for themselves?

I think you've portrayed a great amount of the message/concept through this piece...

Certainly, the way the hand rises up towards the 'sun' or rather the flare there makes it more profound, as it makes it seem as if the hand is ever reaching and yet... never catching.

The object itself that surrounds the background is really intriguing. o.O

I like the colours and how they're muted a bit, as if to say that it acts as a group/collective against us, if that makes sense.

Thanks for your awesome comment. By the way: it certainly makes sense, for example, we all have dreams, we can't reach. Do you have one?

That's true...

Well, I have an ideal that I know will never exist... is that the same sort of thing?

Yeah!

But for me, it's freedom.

Like... I would like freedom so, so much, but I don't think it actually exists.

I don't think of a specific quote right now, but I think of the story of Tantalus, the Greek king who misbehaved and then was punished by the gods.

He has to sit forever in water, with grapes hanging all around him. His punishment is to be thirsty and hungry forever, because whenever he tries to reach the water or the grapes, the gods make sure these go away of his hands or mouth. It's the image of the hand so desperately pointed at the light that made me think of this story.

Now I'm typing this, I also think of Sisifos or Sisyphus, another unfortunate Greek. He has to push a rock to the top of a hill, but this rock is spelled and will roll away in ever attempt.

Albert Camus uses that last image to describe the situation we all live in (Le Mythe de Sisyphe). He states that we all have to cope with the absurdity of life, before we can really enjoy living our lives.

Now I found a quote of Camus [link]

"Beauty is unbearable, drives us to despair, offering us for a minute the glimpse of an eternity that we should like to stretch out over the whole of time."

Answering the question about God, I believe that God exists in every living being and also in dead matter, everywhere there are forces that hold little things together to form a bigger whole. That's what God is for me. Electricity, the force of gravity, love for your parents, for your partner, any force that makes it possible to perform things that rationally sometimes seem impossible.

Bye,
Bert

Hallo Bert,

Groetjes,
Bert

well this is a wonderful work - no doubt there
but because for me it seems like a hand reaching for help from anywhere but especially from a higher being - here is my quote

"Pray that your loneliness may spur you into finding something to live for, great enough to die for."

- Dag Hammarskjold

i hope you find it fitting

Wow I love th concept, I think it goes for many deviant , including myself, wanting to be a great artist in the near future, but looking at what other profesionnal artist's did, it seems impossible to reach their level.

Also , wow ! How did you take that picure ? ... creepy

To respond to your "do you believe in god" thing, I don't believe a specific god like Bouddha or something else. But I do believ that someone higher is watching over us. But I have to admit that I want to believe because it feels ,, I dont know, more safe ? like when Im in big trouble or have a freaking stomach ache (it's terrible to us girls...) I "beg" for help (in my mind of course) and I believe or at least hope that "god" will listen.
But what I really do believe is Karma , for example, you are racist for no reason toward someone, then one day you need them for help, but you can't ask them since it's for sure that they will refuse. Then you end up in big trouble and regret it.

Oh I just noticed that you wrote "what is he or she reponsible" but I think I have said it so in other words, we are all reponsible for our actions but "god" will surely assure balance of the consequences that your actions leads to.

I know Im weird, and even weirder, I Strongly believe that omens or a lost memory, or just something that you should know, can be seen in dreams
again, sorry for the weirdness.

Anw, great picture and concept !!

Weird? Nothing weird about your believe.

I have the same dream, I want to become a professional artist, I am currently studying hard for it , and thats makes me believe in it. (though it appears the end of the tunnel far.)

Karma is a mysterious thing, and actually it would be correct, it would make the world a better place, and I also believe in a kind of karma, which I take to mean as much as I try to do well. And never try to offend people because I know from personal experiences that these things hurt a lot.

I experienced a dream, i dreamt, becoming real, i think it is coincidence, I heard form a teacher it's something Scientific. Something in the subconscious.

By the way Love your comment and really hope you keep giving them
