Niiiiiice. Great illustration for one of the few remaining forces of badassery in the Hyperion future. Nothing quite like functionally-immortal soldiers with bleeding-edge tech for guarding the pope.

Hot damn. This is kind of awesome. It makes me want to read Hyperion over...and over and over and over. Makes me proud to be Catholic

He is human. The Swiss Guard are the Popes personal guard at Vatican... and in future they are all supposed to look something like that

'Cept these guys would WIPE THE FLOOR with the space marines. Something about being able to die over and over and over again, but just be reborn each time.

like the necrons?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ThanatosGear In reply to Clone-Trooper [2007-06-25 02:29:58 +0000 UTC]

Nope. Worse. These guys have a symbiote living in them, with it's nervous system spread out through their entire body. If just a tiny near-microscpoic piece of the symbiote survives (and it is VERY tough), the person will be reborn within a few days. Other than removing the symbiote, there is no known way to kill such a person, and only one thing can remove the symbiote. And that thing, the Shrike, isn't very helpful. [link]
