The clock is Conky, yes it is downloadable but I can't remember the name of the config sorry.

just lovely. exactly the type of stuff i'd run if i needed a dock
on the subject of cinnamon, i've tried it for the shortest time off some usb'd distro, i think it was mint in fact, but i noticed that fonts in the panel were curiously small compared to the rest of the system. was that me or does cinnamon do that?

Thanks very much. I think it has to do with what theme you are using. I know that some themes use quite large fonts, which I don't like and others use small fonts. I think it is just a matter of deciding which theme fits you best.
