Description 'I am not an artist.' She said, undoubtedly not understanding she was being far too critical, and far too little self indulgent.

You know the funny thing about a lot of art blocks? Many consider it a time of loss in skill. Of natural inability to contemplate the process behind creating the work. We seldom take note that at these times it is not that our minds have grown forgetful of our passion and design, but far more critical, perhaps even unfairly so. Nothing can please ourselves, nothing can hold our attention or passion because for the life of us, it just does not seem to measure enough to what we truly are wanting.

So when I hear an individual lament their inability, I chuckle and shake my head. You're not cursed with the lacking of an artist. You are not some thing unlike the rest of us that is incapable of expressing yourself or showing us your world. If you are just starting, you may not be skilled, but skill is a means earned through experience and the patience therein. The only thing you are fighting is your developed critique. Wrapped intimately in the loops of self fulfilling doubt, wondering and imagining ridicule that exists in the deeper, darker parts of your fear, that somehow what is inside you isn't good enough.

I don't blame you. But I also love you, and it makes me genuinely sad that you're not as patient or kind to yourself as you deserve. If you're willing to trust yourself like I trust you, then maybe one day you'll take a deep breath and stop saying what you're not, and prove what you are. I know what you are. Don't let them fool you. You're something wonderful, beautiful waiting to happen.
