How?
You crawled up inside the canvas and painted with light from under the surface.
How?

I believe that this is the painting that Stephanie showed me on her phone. I could not recognize it as being her until she showed me a photo of herself from the time that you painted her. In case you didn't know she is quite proud of this painting! I found it to be powerful and beautiful.

Yeah, that's what I like about art - the ego-crushing, self criticism, loss of sleep, and grueling labor. I guess that's why I don't have a single painting of mine anymore. The last time I really tried to paint something nice I got into a bit of trouble when I let a girl who I will not describe as a friend put me up to painting two girls, eh, holding hands. That would have been high school many moons ago. I especially am put off by those uneven thin spots where you can tell what one has reeeeeally been working on versus the stuff that needs to be filled in gracefully. It frightens me to the point of only doing really chickenshit stuff like pencil etc, which I love.
Your flesh tones are outstanding to my eye, as is the hair and the expression captured. It is good enough to make you worthy even without your blessed good fortune.
Do more.
- and while you are better at guitar than many people, keep your day job. Art loves you, believe it or not. It may not feed you, but... you get the picture.
Hope I don't regret this in the morning.

Dude, the "day job" you want me to keep is writing the Venture Bros. This painting shit is "my old job", and the music is "my other job". And really, this "keep your day job" shit isn't polite. If you don't like my music, don't listen to it, but don't tell me what my job is till you're paying me. Till then... my job.

I'm sorry. I meant I really liked your art, and that was a tragic choice of words. I'm sorry.

There's so much tension in the face yet the model still looks absolutely beautiful. I love the way oil painters know how to use weird combinations of colors to create a realistic and convincing skin tone. Very cool!

when the uninitiated find out you paint ,they say things like,'thats nice...'
its not. its more like fight club. or shit wrestling demons.
I hope you never achieve your goal of "Just a little trifle I coughed up in an afternoon."

I love this - i can relate.
"If I got anywhere close to my goal, this should look like I just tossed this out. As if I put little effort into producing it. Ya know "Just a little trifle I coughed up in an afternoon." But between you and me, it was the result of grueling labor, loss of sleep, ego-crushing self criticism, and more hours than I can remember."
