Description These are my top three picks for the Joker in a 1980s Batman film.

Pick #1: Christopher Lloyd (One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Taxi, The Addams Family)

Reason for Casting: You all may know Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown in the Back to the Future film trilogy. However, that is not what convinced me to cast him as the Joker. It was seeing him as Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?. Throughout the film, his character is cool, calm, and collected. But after a big reveal, he goes all out batshit insane. Don't believe me? Then check out this clip below (which I like to call "My recurring nightmare ever since I was 7"):

Combine that with the eccentricities of other characters he's played, then he'd be great as an 80s Joker.

Pick #2: Steve Martin (The Jerk, Three Amigos, Planes, Trains, and Automobiles)

Reason for Casting: I know this may seem like a very out-of-the-left-field pick. Steve Martin is mainly known for being a comedian, often playing jerks, oddballs, and (on the rare occasion) the straight man. However, what made me pick him was seeing him as Orin Scrivello, the sadistic/sociopathic dentist in Little Shop of Horrors. After seeing him play such an over-the-top and sadistic character, I have a feeling that he could be a good 80s Joker, probably doing a mix of Mark Hamill's and Jack Nicholson's take on the Clown Prince of Crime.  Check out this clip below if you're not convinced:

Pick #3: Dennis Hopper (Easy Rider, Rumblefish, Blue Velvet)

Reason for Casting: I know that I already did a deviant on this, but I'll explain my reasoning again. It was Hopper's performance in Blue Velvet as Frank Booth, a sadistic psychopath with a thing for rape and acts of violence, that proved me he'd be amazing as the Joker.

If you have your own pick for an 80s Joker, then mention it in the comments.

Lloyd can pull off a real Jokerish smile. Good idea.

Lloyd- It would be interesting , but definately not my first choice

Martin- Well after his performance as the drill happy Dentist in Little Shop , I can safely say...YES ! He would have been perfect !

Hopper- WHY DIDNT THIS HAPPEN ?! HE WOULD HAVE BEEN AMAZING ! I mean this guy could have made him both funny and scary AT THE SAME TIME !

I'm thinking Lloyd out of these three, considering his work in "Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values" as Uncle Fester, and Judge Doom, (especially when Doom went psycho-toon on Eddie.)

Steve Martin is more comedic than crazy, (despite some of his roles such as the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors), but I'm sure we could get a laugh of him, but maybe not so much the insanity.

As for Dennis Hopper.....I've only seen clips mainly of his work, (namely "Mario Bros." and "Waterworld"), so I got nothin'.

Glad you like Christopher Lloyd.

I just had a feeling that Steve Martin would give a much more over-the-top performance than Jack Nicholson.

Then I suggest you check out Blue Velvet. Hopper is pretty psychotic in that.

(Yeah, imo Jack wasn't really that crazy. But Mark Hamil is still, imo better than Ledger. )

Wow, all three great picks! I could've seen Steve Martin before Jack Nicholson got the role!

By the way, I'm uploading my choice for Green Arrow very shortly!

Thank you for being more receptive than Rob.

And Steve Martin would of actually been a much more enjoyable Joker.
