I just wanted to encourage you guys and prove to you that artists are not born being as good as they will ever be!I drew this exactly 3 years ago this month, and was about 30 days after I started drawing, after a 30 YEAR time out, HA!

That's MIND BLOWING that you have only been at this for just 4 years! You must have some type of genius for it...I've seen a few others, both who paint people and landscapes, who also have only been at it for a short while. They seem to think anyone can do it with enough practice. Although that may be true to an 'extent', still a person has to be talented to begin with...to get to your level!

So strange you mention that, cuz I just told my daughter I cud teach anyone to do wh as t I do, haha. It did surprise me at first, but niw I think I hust see details others dont see?

Yes you do; but it's more than that, it's a distinct and personal 'skill'...Just like, a hair dresser once told me anyone can learn what she does. And again, although true, like I told her, not everyone is going to be GOOD at it. - To keep people coming back for more.
I used to feel the same way about my writing skills, that anyone can learn. Again, they can! But not all are going to be good at it.
I think the advice that people :keep practicing; practice makes perfect", is good advice; to the best of their abilities - But I wouldn't tell them at all "anyone can do what "I" do". - meaning yourself; for, "anyone" simply can not. You just think that because it comes so easy, and natural to you.

What a big improvement! The first one was already great, but the second one looks just like the real thing!
The funny thing is that I probably wouldn't even be able to draw the one on the left! XD
I've been practicing with your tutorials and tip guides, and they're really helping me! I'm going to try to draw my first portrait fairly soon! ^^

I love the difference between the portraits and it is such a good idea to post them both. It will hopefully encourage some new artists out there to just keep drawing. We can ALWAYS learn and improve.

Yes there does seem to be a few subtle differences ......
Great work as usual Rick.....im sure your parents are really pleased with it...
I have redrawn a few of my earlier stuff and even over a course of a few months i can see a difference. Its definately a worth while exercise to do for those starting out Though it maybe only subtle differences, its those differences that build your confidence up....and also with the encouragement of others on this site....
