Description Here is my take on the Myrmidon, the dreadful half-ant, half-human warriors created by Zeus which fought alongside Achilles during the Trojan War, in Homer's "Iliad" !

What, originally they were ant hybrids?!

Well, the sure thing is that they were originally ants, and Zeus turned them into soldiers so they could become Achilles' army It is not precised if they were looking like simple humans, like in the movies, or like ant-men hybrids... but I prefer the second alternative, and a few artists did that before me Myrmidon comes from the ancient greek "myrmex", which means ant !

This is awesome! I plan on adding the myrmidon's to a future series.

Oh man, what a GREAT choice! Finally someone has made one. Love that shield!Β Β
I've considered doing it in the past alongside other insect myth creatures, but mine
was just a human-like race with insect-like features.
Maybe aΒ Haakapainizi someday would be cool someday as well...

Thank you so much man ! Yeah, artworks of Myrmidon are quite rare out there They're too often represented as simple humans in movies ! But imagine an adaptation of the Iliad where an army of Myrmidon like the one I designed rushes on the battlefield, able to fight several enemies at once, even without weapons, to lift more than two men, and to crawl on battlements like real ants (while Wonder Woman's theme is playing XD) ! I'd like to see your take on them anyway Never heard about Haakapainizi though ! Are those giant grasshoppers ?

Yeah! Why do they always try to take out the awesomeness out of stuff like this?! An army of human-sized hybrid ants sent by the gods fighting alongside you in a war is just epic!
If I ever draw it it would probably be part of a bundle with other insect-like myth creatures. I already have a pretty sizable list with a lot of possible candidates, so I just need some motivation to go and do the darn thing.Β Β
Yup! It's a giant grasshopper bogeyman that approaches children pretending to be friendly, but then kidnaps and eats them! Not sure why any sane child wouldn't run away in fear at the first sight of such a thing instead of trying to talk to it, but hey, I'm not the one making this stuff. Stranger danger kids.

Okay
Β
When I'll draw Fomorians, there will be...like three different ones on the same picture (except Balor), just to show how they can be different from each other

Nice, good idea!Β Β
It's indeed a more interesting idea than just drawing it as a goat-headed humanoid as in SMT and Castlevania!
They came in a lot of different shapes and forms after all!Β

Although I remember reading somewhere that some Fomorians had goat heads, I never really saw them with such a feature ^^' more like...amphibious trolls/goblins, since they came from beneath the sea I completely forgot they appeared in Castlevania Symphony of the Night was THE game that introduced me to demonology in gaming, before SMT

I myself have no idea where the goat thing came from either...Β Β
As far as I know, just as you, I've only read about them looking like trolls and goblins. But well, it seems to have become a pattern in japan indeed for some reason.
I first learned about them in Ecclesia, where they were just a discount Baphomet , and until I learned more about them, I've always dismissed them as such.Β Β
Actually, my first encounter with demonology was with Castlevania as well (although I first gained interest in mythology in general my playing Okami).Β Β
I clearly remember the day I was watching a let's play of portrait of ruin and every time a new enemy appeared on screen I would rush to wikipedia to learn if it was based around anything. I remember seeing jellyfish forneus back then and being amazed and full of curiosity.

"Mocks God.." What the heck do Fomorians have to do with THE God XD ?! My first "encounter" with Fomorians and Myrmidon happened while taking a look at Weird n' Wild Creatures's Monsters of the Mind sheets, not sure if it sounds familiar to you Myrmidon were just called Ant men, though ! I learned about Cthulhu and the whole Lovecraftian pantheon thanks to those sheets and trading cards, too

Yeah, right? XDDD
I'm pretty that the artist who made the sprite and the programmers who made it into an enemy just based it around the Baphomet, and then the guy responsible for naming everything just woke up feeling creative that morning and grabbed the first name he found fitting in his mythology book! XD
I know vaguely about it, yes. I've seen some of their monster profile images floating around the web before!Β Β
If I'm not mistaken, they also just called the Girtablilu "Scorpion Men". I see a pattern here! XDDD

Yes, they just called it Scorpion man X)
