I’m doing something different for this picture. This picture is not dedicated to a deviant, or a coworker. It is dedicated to someone I have never met, and probably never will. But I know her story:

-How her life changed in the blink of an eye.
-How countless people attempted to look for her.
-How neither her nor her family ever lost hope.
-How she was finally rescued after 18 years.

I dedicate this picture to Jaycee Lee Dugard.

And if I ever got the chance to meet her, this is what I’d say:

“I can’t imagine what you’ve been through. You’re a very strong and courageous woman. I don’t think anyone could endure what you have. You carry with you a flame of hope that will never be extinguished. I pray that you and your family have a long and happy life together. I hope one day this picture finds you, and that you read these words I have left for you here. You don’t have to say anything, or even fave it. But hearing your story inspired me to make this angel for you.”

I’m sure you’re probably thinking “Why didn’t you make her a mermaid?” I didn’t want to because mermaids are confined to water. They can’t survive on land. She wouldn’t have as much freedom if she had a fishtail, so the mermaid form was out.

Making her a fairy would’ve made her too similar to the one’s I’ve made for my coworkers. Giving her a dress made from a flower and butterfly wings would probably make you think “You work with her?” So the fairy form was out.

The only other option left was an angel, and I haven’t done many of those! She’s shown here taking flight, because she is now free as a bird, and can spread her flames of hope to other children who are awaiting their time to be freed and the families who pray for their safe return.

I was inspired to make this picture after watching her interview with Diane Sawyer on July 10, and how she went into detail about what happened during her captivity, and the numerous failed attempts to rescue her ( You idiots missed the most obvious of hiding places?! How are you still employed? You should’ve searched the whole damn property instead of the damn house alone!). I wanted to show her that I feel awful about what she went through, and hopefully she’ll see this and it’ll brighten her day. But honestly, I don’t care if she sees it or not.

There’s some of trivia in this picture:

-The last thing Jaycee touched before her abduction was a pine cone. She wears a silver one on a necklace. Her angel had to reflect this, though I made it gold. She also stated in an interview that she wore pink (not surprising really), so her angel sports variations of that color. Maybe I should’ve asked what her favorite colors were.

-The torch she’s carrying is colored amber, which is a reference to the Amber Alert. This alert makes the public aware of child abductions. Since its conception, it has saved the lives of many children across the country. Code Adam is a similar method they use in stores.

-Jaycee’s outfit is a recolored version of Celestria’s Raiment from Dragon Quest 9. It is worn by an angelic character from that game, who spared the humans from the wrath of the gods and leaving behind the Great Tree in her wake.

-OMG IT HAS A BACKGROUND?!

Those of you with missing children, or know someone who does, do not lose hope. I pray for all missing children to be safely returned to their homes.
