It is from the Mythology of Great Old Ones, or in other words "Cthulhu Mythos"- a literary setting created by an early XX century horror author Howard Phillips Lovecraft and expanded by later writers.

Hmmm, na otwarcie polecałbym opowiadania "Herbert West- Reanimator" (w klimacie "Frankensteina") i "Widmo nad Innsmouth" - sam od nich zaczynałem przygodę z HPL'em
