Description A continuing look at the characters of Doctor Who for the forthcoming 50th anniversary. Project Who-50 aims to celebrate televised Doctor Who first and foremost, but also to encompass the legacy that that programme gave us. From the spin-off television series "K9", here's K-9.

So this is the regenerated form of the robot dog, forced to after he was destroyed by a Jixen. Initially I thought the design was a bit meh, but I have to admit that it has grown on me tremendously since, and I don't mind it so much so. John Leeson's voice helped a lot as well.

Will you be doing an image for the new K9 design that will be used in Timequake?

Yeah, I probably will if TimeQuake is released. The promo images don't seem too far removed from the version in the television series.

It does look similar to the TV Show design, but the new design seems more darker in colour and more blocky in shape.

The movie will have to happen before it earns its place

Yes. It does seem weird though that Omega's big comeback is in a K9 movie. I would have loved to have seen him in Hell Bent.

I think he would work better in Doctor Who....

Back in the eighties, they had these K9 books, and I get the feeling that one of them featured Omega (or Omegan, more accurately). May have to check that out.

I like this design, but the original will always be better! However, in the K9 show, he refers to this form as Mark 2, not Mark 1.5

Yeah...except he's not Mark 2....that would be the K9 the Doctor built and left with Romana. As this is K9 Mark 1, upgraded, I've elected to call him 1.5.

Oh, it's not that bad

I'd agree if it wern't for the regeneration idea. Tin dogs do not regenerate just like the Batman doesn't eat nachos.

I put it down to being altered by Gallifreyan technology

In a Unbound timeline, I'll accept it.

I like the redesign. Β It gives him more of a puppy quality, almost. Β That, and he's a little more mobile with the flying thing.

Yeah, I have to admit I wasn't keen on the whole redesign thing, but once I saw it, I was completely cool with it. It's a nice update and works pretty well - certainly does make him more mobile.

Ahhhhh no, no. no, no. Redesigns seldom work.

Yeah, agreed, but this one wasn't as awful as I thought it was going to be, which surprised me. Would have been nice to see the original (outside of the few minutes we did see it), but I guess copyright was an issue.

I still prefer the original K-9 better, but like the idea of updating K-9 for a new generation. Thanks for sharing your work with us.

Thanks very much

I agree that the original K-9 has much more charm, but I guess my feelings were that, yeah, the new K-9 wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be
