Not to mention arrogant, as I understand it, he banned Dave Prowse from attending Star Wars conventions because it seems Dave ended up mentioning at some point when 'The Empire Strikes Back' was coming out to Cinemas at the time that Vader is Luke's dad . . typical, but after all these years, who cares, it's common knowledge.

Thank you men! Without you, so many of us would be down in the dumps! Thanks to all that you have created, we fanboys and fangirls have something to talk about! Because of you, we are 'united.' (There's still a slight rivalry between Trekkies and whatever we Star Wars fans call ourselves) I salute you all!

I've read about Roddenberry's opinion on the five after TMP, and he didn't like the militaristic side of Star Fleet, and had been planning a lawsuit against Star Trek VI over certain aspects of the film that he didn't like.

No problem, it's just sad how little control he had over Star Trek after The Motion Picture, I can't even imagine his frustration over how little control he had over what he created.
But, here was the problems he had
II: Too militaristic
III: The destruction of the Enterprise, and the set up of the Excelsior as the replacement (fortunately never happened).
IV: No problem, except he wanted it to be about the JFK assassination.
V: No problems, aside from Sarek having a previous wife.
VI: Starfleet's involvement in a conspiracy, Kirk and the crew's overt bigotry,
I couldn't even think of what he would have thought of DS9, and the reboots

I wouldn't exactly call him one of the Godfathers of Science Fiction anyway, after all, the 4 above created memorable Sci-Fi TV shows and films, where as J.J. has not created anything new, just made a modern version of one man's view of the future.

Can't forget Issac Asimov, Jules Verne, and H.G. Welles, each of who practically INVENTED science fiction!

I'm no fan of H.G. Well's 'The Time Machine' even thou it was an inspiration for Doctor Who.
As for the other 2, Ive heard of them, but I'm not familiar with their work.

That's okay. You have every right to like what you want to like.
As for Asimov and Verne, Asimov was an immensly-popular science fiction author during the middle of the 20th century, who wrote mostly stuff about robots and space travel, such as "I, Robot" and the Foundation saga. His books have inspired both science fiction writers and scientists, and he pretty much invented science fiction as we understand it today. Jules Verne, author of such classics as "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," "The Lost World," and "Journey to the Center of the Earth," probably one-upped every science fiction author around by literally writing the first-ever stories in the genre, as well as inspiring the creation of the Steampunk subculture. I know I didn't mention them yet, but there is also Arthur C. Clarke, a NASA administrator who wrote "2001: A Space Oddessey" and helped influence other writers to put real science into their science fiction stories, and Frank Herbert, creator of the Dune saga, the best-selling science fiction book series of all time (and my personal favorite).
I hate to break it to you, DoctorWhoOne, (seeing that you are quite obviously a Who fan and proud of it), but I can't really say that the people who you have listed on this picture could really be called the Godfathers of Science Fiction. Don't get me wrong, all of these men are very creative and have a strong influence on the modern science fiction genre overall, but I don't think that could match up against the people who literally invented the genre and inspired these people in the first place. If you ask me, I would have the four Godfathers of Science Fiction be Jules Verne, Issac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, and H.G. Welles.

To be honest, I think if you mentioned Jules Verne, Issac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and H.G. Welles to any young children alive today, they'd probably ask "Who are they ?, I don't know them', where as George Lucas would be well known to children for the Star Wars films, most recently being the prequel trilogy and the Clone Wars, while the other 3 may not be so well known to young children of today as the creators of Doctor Who, Star Trek and Thunderbirds.

Roddenberry was more of a father than godfather, a true master of real sci-fi I mention in the same breath as Ray Bradbury, Harlan Ellison and Robert Heinlein.
George Lucas...more a master of space opera and adventure story.

The case could easily be made that the real God Fathers of Sci Fi were the Giants upon who's shoulders these men have stood.

Sportscaster Mike Lange used to say stranger things while calling Pens (NHL Hockey) games.
A particularly impressive play might move Mike to declare, "Oh, she wants to sell my monkey!"
I have no idea why he'd say that either.
