I blame bovidaeloony for this. Lol. Already had this char in mind for another group, which sadly closed, before I could make her and now Bovi had her char from that group join HotK and so, yeah, I remembered my big lady and just had to take the opporunity. Also, slipping in last minute, phew, thanks guys! <3

Name: Aruba
Meaning: the name of an island
Gender: Female
Species: African Elephant
Age: Adult

Personality: Aruba is a lady, who knows her way around the savannah. She's got street-smarts and can chat up pretty much everyone, if she wants to. She sometimes can be prone to ramble a bit and some might say she often talks quite a lot of nonsense, but actually she's mostly just a very creative mind, whose ideas are sometimes progressing faster than her mouth can talk. She is very clever and will find a solution to almost every problem, often having more than one plan ready for every situation that might arise. She even learned to use some tools to her advantage, like sticks, stones or leaves.
She is outstandingly out-going and social and despite living by herself, will often walk up to strangers and talk to them, if they want her to or not. Some animals speak of her as a bit crazy, which she might be to some point, but in whole she is a very loveable animal of a most helpful nature, who will gladly lend her enormous strength, if somebody might be in need for it.
Aruba knows the wildest stories and will gladly tell them to everyone, who is willing to listen. What she also knows, is that she's a big girl and that she can defend herself, if she has to, which she however only does, if she sees absolutely no way around it. Elephants are peaceful creatures after all, right? Right! Despite her social and friendly nature, Aruba has a great fear of commitment and has a hard time getting really close to others. She will always help, but one can never expect her to stay forever, for she will leave, whenever she feels, she’s getting too much involved with the animals around her. She likes to keep things on a casual, playful level with others and generally dislikes taking responsibility, even though she will, whenever she notices there is nobody else around to take it. She will however all too gladly give it up again, once somebody else comes around and wants to take responsibility in their hooves or paws. Aruba prefers to stay her only responsibility.

Background: Born into a loving herd Aruba grew up quite like any other elephant. She had a nice childhood with many playmates to have fun with and her mother and aunts taking care of her and the other calves, teaching them everything an elephant needed to know. They wandered the lands like all elephants do and met many places, while Aruba grew up. Eventually the matriarch of the herd died and Aruba was chosen the new leader by the remaining females, because she already had proven herself worthy to the other elephants, by leading them out of many tricky situations with her creative ideas and never-ending plans. Everything was good and Aruba was a well-respected matriarch to her herd. However, this all changed when during a particular dry season, the herd no longer could find any water in their old lands! Aruba and her elephants grew desperate, where should they find water, if even Aruba's most secret water holes had dried out?

The only thing they could do, was travel the desert! The elephants were weary, but they followed Aruba's lead, knowing she always had a plan. Aruba did, her plan was to only travel by night, rest by day, wander from one oasis to the other and use the stars to navigate. Yet, the dry season was so hard, even the reliable oases had dried out and so one by one her elephants died in the heat of the desert sands. Aruba however didn't want to give up, she wandered and wandered, until she was the only one left. She reached the other side of the desert and the water, but her herd? She had lead her herd to their doom! What sort of matriarch was she, to lead her herd into the desert to die! They had followed her, because they had trusted her and she had failed them.
She decided to never join a herd again, not taking responsibility for the lives of others anymore, but stay by herself, so she never would hurt anybody again. Her plans however stayed and so did her ideas and even if the trauma of losing her herd and being alone for so long might have made her a bit, well, odd at times, she still very much likes to help others, even though without any commitments made! Aruba is Aruba’s only responsibility.

Other:
She loves flowers, tiny, little flowers the most.
She lost half of her tusk fighting off a male elephant, who wouldn't leave a female alone.
She earned a big scar to her right flank, when she freed an elephant calf, that had gotten stuck under a fallen tree in a fire.
