When they had safely reached Windborne, Starling had felt accomplished. Despite all the odds he had managed to bring Vera and Siv to Windborne and they had arrived all in one piece. He had brought them directly to his parents, where his father could take care of young Siv and make sure he would receive all the herbs he needed to become a fine stag, despite his early birth and exhausting first year and also Vera would have enough time to settle with them, before starting over again in Windborne.

It had almost look, like he could finally rest some. Almost. His parents had soon told Starling about all the things that had happened, while he was away. About the alliance, about the storm, about the fight and about the horrible rumours of fawns having been kidnapped! Starling could hardly believe it at first, but his father told him he had heard it from old Cape friends himself and also his mother seconded, having heard it from other Point does. A huge worry suddenly took over Starling, he began to worry about his sister, about Einin, about Glace, about Eli and Aro, about all his friends and all other fawnlings. This war made no sense, it was stupid and pointless, it never should have happened! Sure, there always had been fights among the groups, but Starling had never understood them. Why couldn’t there just be a queen too? Why couldn’t those, who liked to just believe in the Wind? He never had understood it, but accepted it – war however, was something he could not accept. He needed to do something! He was just a single stag, but sometimes even a single stag could start something great, like their home, Windborne, who also had been found by one stag.

Starling so left Vera and Siv with his parents and set out to do what he thought was the best way to end a fight, he set out to talk! He wanted to talk to as many stags and does he could. Listen to them, hear what they thought about the things that had happened. He wanted to listen to everyone and then tell them about the point of view of others and hopefully, hopefully at least some would realize that fighting was not necessary! If only one fawnling would follow his plea for peace, he already would feel he succeeded!

“The fox is sly, brave child. Don’t trust the fox. His eyes are keen, his mind is wicked. Don’t trust the fox. The fox will never listen to the bird.”

Starling heard the wind hum in his ears, while he trotted through the grassland, heading straight where his parents had told him most of the main herd would be found. He knew the wind had a point, but he needed to talk to the person who mattered most in all this first, the one person who had started all this. Everybody could be talked to, if you had the right arguments, Starling believed. Everybody.
