Description Well this was my idea for the winter dream photo contest but I recieved too many watchers to join but I still really wanted to shoot it. It didn't turn out quite as cool as I imagined but I think it's good enough to at least post for some feedback. I drove around for a long time looking for this location and when I finally found it I cound't find a parking spot, believe it or not I took this in the city. When I finally found a spot I realized that I didn't have my memory card so I had to go all the way back and find it. By the time I got back an found my location i had lost most of the good light so I used a fill flash. I probably would have still tried using a fill flash but it was needed here. I like that part of it, it brings out the details and the melting snow (water drops).

Really like this. The later time and use of fill flash have probably given you a much better shot than what you may have had earlier that day. As to the background its as if it's viewed through a pane of old glass with all its distortions. Or, incongruous as this may be, a heat haze from a convector heater. Laughable, i know, that you carted either with you.

Thanks for posting it as large as you have. However, i'm now at 1680 x 1050 screen resolution. Any chance you could post an even larger version i could then download as a wallpaper/screen-saver? I've zoomed it up so know it will look brilliant but unfortunately that loses what detail this small version shows and i just know there's a lot of detail there to enjoy. i just wish to see it, melting snow, water drops and all, even the dead heads.

Any chance you will be posting any of the other shots from this shoot?

I've collected a lot of your work this last week. Not sure but this may be my first comment. Crap memory, poor concentration, what more can i say. Really, this is a request masquerading as a comment. i trust you understand that my collecting of each shot is a positive 'Comment' in and of its self. Brain ache has set in. Please forgive any rambling, leaps and poor grammar.

Thank you.

Happy New Year, 2011.

I like the drooping, gray sunflowers in the the background. It makes the survivor in the front all the more special and beautiful.

yes indeed,it's really nice. i like the concept of the photo, the sunflower represents the summer, hot sun and stuff, and the snaw represents the winter of course, and it's like winter killing the summer or something like that...

wow! this is AWESOME! The lack of color in the background in contrast with the burst of color here is amazing! stunning image!

The sunflower doesn't seem human enough. Did that even make sense? Tinder suggested a closer crop, but if it was me I'd make it more wide angle to make the sunflower seem more lonely and make your eyes more across the length of the photo. I love the idea though.
Anyway, that was my two cents worth, can't wait to see what more you do with it.

This is an awesome idea... I wish I could think of something like that hehe. I don't think I'll be able to do anything good enough for the contest, I just have no idea >.< It's a pity you have your watchers too high now =\

It's a really nice idea and I could see how you imagined it would come out. The background looks a little wierd. Not blurry but jittery for some reason. My personal preference would have been a closer crop on the width. The colours are outstanding though... very beautiful.

Well.... I wouldn't take it down completly, maybe just work on it some? Look at it from a different angle?
