Old school Mario cool! This is the kind of graphical update I'd like to see for SMB1. The 16-bit-ized version we saw in Super Mario All-Stars just killed a lot of the game's charm for me.

It was looking through my folder of sprite sheets (for the SMB3 thing), I noticed the eyes for for the originals' sprites aren't consistant. Like he was frowning or something. Personally I think he looks more interesting like that, kinda like [link] from Cloudy with a chance of meatballs.

I always found it kinda weird how the artwork looks so happy, and the actual sprites for Mario looked so serious. Clearly shows it here, which makes me laugh lol.

This is why SEGA changed Sonic for the Dreamcast. They new eventually he would look even weirder than this.

Well not really, not at all. Sega were losing in the market, and were most likely just trying to keep up with Sony, and by that I mean, being edgy and having attitude. It worked well for them in the early 90's against Nintendo's more lighthearted nature.
The older Sonic looks fine in sprite form and illustrated. And considering Sonic Generations just came out, I'm saying I really really doubt it!
