Contra Hard Corps was my favorite Contra game, and I do remember this running mecha boss in the early stages.

Very true with all the different paths you can take on the game and all the different outcomes it had.
It had some really crazy bosses too. Like remember the one boss that was like the Mad Scientist who merges various different enemies together? Or the one boss that was like 3 Vehicles that combine Megazord-Style into one of three different robots?
