I think this before and after Embrace portrait is the last one for now. I miss traditional painting and I have so many ideas, including Shape of water fanart that I want to paint. If you like these kind of portraits don’t worry, I still have a lot of vampire characters left so I will definitely do one of these once in a while.
Painting his human version was really challenging as even though I, like most people, love to look at pretty elven girls or monstrous vampires, I want to be able to paint more realistic looking people.
I try to make my characters as based in reality as I can, not only with their imperfect looks, but also in their motivations, past, psychology. It is probably that side of me that always wanted to be a book author and thus think about everything in great detail. I would love some day to write all their stories properly, but if it will happen, it will only be available in Czech language as I don’t think my English would be good enough for serious writing.
Anyway, let’s finally talk about Theodor.
Theodor is actually from Russia, his real name is Фёдор (Fjodor), he started to use this more European version of his name long before his embrace when he pretended to be a foreigner.
He grew up in an orphanage and he was an awkward kid since his childhood. Later he spent his adolescence in a bad environment and acquired some unpleasant qualities that only made him more weird. Even as an adult, he never got past the awkwardness that surrounded him, he made people, especially women, uncomfortable. And no, he was not the innocent, lovely awkward dork you might think he was. He even killed someone, though it was more an act of momentarily anger and embarrassment than an evil vicious act.
He sustained his living mostly by theft and burglary and lived quite a gluttonous life, well until he just picked a wrong target. As a vampire, he is probably the most unpleasant person to be around, and I am not talking just about his badly sewn face that keeps falling apart every time he opens his mouth too wide. He is not an evil person, like sometimes he really tries to not look as a total creep, but sadly he is very bad at this. He often says or does inappropriate things and it I bet you would not like to spend more than 5 minutes with him alone.
He just don’t have the manners like Werner, or harsh humor like Mirabelle. To be true, even other Nossies don’t like to spend time in his company. Well, I promise I will translate his backstory someday as it would say more about him than I can in such short article.
