Description Translation " Norway and Bamse (readt as "Bump-sa") "

I've always wanted to draw fan art featuring both of them,
since those two are my favourites
I first knew about Bamse when I was randomly Googling "sailor dog"
then adorable pictures of this Norwegian dog that is wearing a sailor's cap appeared.
I browsed his history out of curiosity
& I ended up falling in love with this hero dog
He is just so cute & a sweet mannered, not to mention loyal also; dog  ^^
Anyways
Since in history; Bamse was described as such a darling to the Norwegian people, I imagined that
Norway would love him very much & doted on him as well

if you happen to not familiar with him,
here is some history about him that I took from wikipedia
& www.bamsemontrose.co.uk/

About Bamse

Bamse (meaning "teddy bear" in Norwegian) was a St. Bernard dog from Norway that served in WW II & became the heroic mascot of the Free Norwegian Forces. He was owned by Captain Erling Hafto, the master of Norwegian whale catcher ship called Thorodd. During the war times, the Thorodd  was converted into minesweeper & stationed in Dundee & Montrose, Scotland. Bamse was a darling to the ship crew. When Captain Hafto got transferred & going to take his dog along with him, the crew threatened mutiny; saying that they won't sail without Bamse. The captain was then forced to entrust Bamse to his successor on the understanding that he would be reclaimed for the family after the war.

On 9 February 1940, Bamse was enrolled as official crew member of the ship. Bamse lifted the morale of the ship's crew & became well known to the local civilian population. In battle, he would stand on the front gun tower of the boat, and the crew made him a special metal helmet. His acts of heroism included saving a young lieutenant commander, who had been attacked by a man wielding a knife by pushing the assailant into the sea and dragging back to shore a sailor, who had fallen overboard. He was also known for breaking up fights amongst his crewmates by putting his paws on their shoulders, calming them down and then leading them back to the ship.
One of Bamse's tasks in Scotland was to round up his crew and escort them back to the ship in time for duty or curfew. To do this, he travelled on the local buses unaccompanied, and the crew bought him a buss pass, which was attached to his collar. Bamse would wander down to the bus stop at Broughty Ferry Road and take the bus down to Dundee. He would get off at the bus stop near his crew's favourite watering hole, the Bodega Bar and go in to fetch them. If he could not locate his friends he would take the bus back to base.

From his ship's mascot, Bamse became mascot of the Royal Norwegian Navy, and then of all the Free Norwegian Forces. An iconic photograph of him wearing a Norwegian sailor's cap was used on patriotic Easter cards and Christmas cards during the war. The PDSA made him an official Allied Forces Mascot.

Bamse died on the dockside at Montrose on 22 July 1944 after suffering from heart failure. He was buried with full military honours. Hundreds of Norwegian sailors, Allied servicemen, schoolchildren and townsfolk from Montrose and Dundee attended his funeral. The Royal Norwegian Navy holds a commemorative ceremony every ten years.

Today, you can find his statue at Montrose, Scotland & Honningsvåg, Norway.

This is such a heartwarming story The picture fits it very well, it is so sweet, and I can feel the bond created between the two characters, especially from the way they look at each other. Also, great use of colours -that navy is eye-catching-, and good job with the dog.

Thank you

I'm satisfied with the result too  ^^
I was kinda worried when I draw Bamse because I very rarely draw animals
( & whenever I did, they turned out looking kinda weird   )
but I'm glad that it looks like he turned out pretty nice to look at
Also I'm glad that this pic delivered that impression to you

History and animals? Right up my alley!

You did such a good job with the colour/poses and, most importantly of all, Bamse! I've never heard of him before but I love hearing about famous animals that weren't just in movies and things.
