Description
Iceland has not ever developed a commercial railway network, therefore trains never had the opportunity to run on the island, except for two occasions: two industrial railways, the first one between 1913 and 1928 and the second one between 1999 and 2004. Both are dismantled as of today, and two locomotives from 1913 are kept as monuments in the capital Reykjavík.
Proposals are starting to come back for an high-speed line between Reykjavík and the airport at Keflavík, with construction starting in 2020. Another plan calls for the costruction of a tram system in Reykjavík.
But what if there was more demand for a rail system spanning the whole of Iceland? What would it look like? This is my "simulation": two major lines from the capital Reykjavík to the far reaches of the country, with a planned conjunction of the two. The railways run for the most part alongside the Route 1 road, nicknamed the "Ring Road" because it encompasses almost all of the island in a ring shape.

Interessante anche se ho paura che non sia molto economicamente sostenibile…

Me ne rendo conto, tanto alla fin fine gli islandesi non hanno nemmeno interesse nel costruire una ferrovia...

When they built the great northern line from townsville to cloncurry, in queensland, australia, it served something like 80000 people over 600 miles. It would not have to be a heavy rail. QR at the time had an axle load of 10 Tons or less. The big Beyer-Garret class locomotives had an axle load of 8 t 10 c (8.5 tons).
So it would be viable to do this, especially if the motor-car is banned.

Very cool! And you did a great job! I figure their railways might be just ruggedized monorails, small island with an even smaller population. Hell, they might try a hyperloop and make a cross-country trip take minutes!

Thank you, yes they could be more experimental since they're starting from scratch

Interesting proposal and work. I didn't know there's no railway network in Iceland currently. Surprising...
