Everyone thinks but is actually a reference to the Schrödinger Cat. That cat is dead and alive at the same time! That cat was put in a box with a frasc of poison. They didnt know if the cat was alive or dead, the only way to know is opening the box, but that could change the possibilities of the cat being alive or dead. So, the cat is both alive and dead at the same time. That is proprably related to Kate, since we got a chance to save her or not,(if you save her ) she can now be dead in other timeline but still alive in the " normal " one. But if you dont save her, she is dead in your timeline but can be alive in other. That means that you dont know if kate is really dead or alive, that makes her the Schrödinger Cat.
