Description: Dominican Heavy metal themed photoshoot featuring multiple actual Santo Domingo
metal scene upstart alternative models. Its purpose was to serve as a heavy metal fashion showcase and point of reference for women of the Dominican heavy metal community. Before the shoot the atmosphere on metal concerts and on other events in regard to what girls used to wear could be described as just try hard, misguided and disjointed. There were no real examples (such as local photoshoots) that girls from the community could point to as a proper source of inspiration and everyone was just doing their thing with no real idea of what the hell they were doing. This gave the community a poor look and really bothered me, everyone would notice but no one would say a thing, so I sprang into action.
To tackle this issue I got together with the models and coached them properly on the looks they would use and went old school as the 80's metal head that I was. So I Introduced the girls to the true female members of metal and rock n roll fashion royalty such as: Lita Ford, Doro Pesch, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett and even referenced Heart and The Bangles. For this reason the shoot is called the "queens of metal" because it's an indirect homage to who served as inspiration for the outfits the girls used while at the same time holding no relation to the actual band of the same name.
Based on which of these queens matched their personality and style, I chose the champion that best suited each of the girls for them to follow; After everyone was happy with their choices we got to work. Needless to say that not only where the shoots a resounding success, but also the intended goal was achieved as after that shoot girls from the community now truly look the part. This was a gradual change that team over the years took notice of and also filled us with pride. We sought to make an impact and actually did it so everyone from the community was truly appreciative of the work we did and earned everyone massive respect.
