I'm not overly fond of this concept. You would run out of space on the taskbar with only three or four apps open.

It still seems like it'd be rather inefficient alone. However, it could be useful in conjunction with something like this: 'i.imgur.com/hofe3GJ.png' . The taskbar could be used for easily switching between the apps you're using at that moment, and you could use a recent app screen for actually managing open apps. These together seem like they would be useful.

Yeah, it would be there as an applet on the right of the taskbar...
